A Numerical Study of a Modular Sparse Grad-Div Stabilization Method for Boussinesq Equations
Demir, Medine; Kaya Merdan, Songül (2019-10-10)
This study presents a modular sparse grad-div stabilization method for solving the Boussinesq equations. Unlike the usual grad-div stabilization which produces fully coupled block matrices, the proposed stabilization method produces block upper triangular matrices. Thus, the proposed method is more attractive in terms of both its computational cost and solution accuracy. We provide unconditional stability results for velocity and temperature. Two numerical experiments are performed to demonstrate the effici...
A numerical study on special truss moment frames
Ölmez, Harun Deniz; Topkaya, Cem; Department of Civil Engineering (2009)
A three-phase numerical study was undertaken to address some design issues related with special truss moment frames (STMFs). In the first phase, the design approaches for distribution of shear strength among stories were examined. Multistory STMFs sized based on elastic and inelastic behavior were evaluated from a performance point of view. A set of time history analysis was conducted to investigate performance parameters such as the interstory drift ratio and the plastic rotation at chord member ends. The ...
A density functional theory study on the structures and energetics of CdmTen clusters (m + n <= 6)
Pekoz, Rengin; Erkoç, Şakir (Elsevier BV, 2009-06-01)
Density functional method has been used to study the structural features and energetics of CdmTen clusters (m + n <= 6). The results presented include the geometric structures, binding energies, Mulliken charges on atoms, vibrational frequencies and the corresponding non-zero infrared intensities, HOMO-LUMO energies and the frontier molecular orbital energy gaps, the most possible dissociation channels and their corresponding energies of the clusters.
A Numerical study of second order time stepping methods for the boussinesq equations
Demir, Medine; Kaya Merdan, Songül (null; 2018-10-21)
The Boussinesq approximation is a way to solve nonisothermall flow such as natural convection prob-lems, without having to solve for the full compressible formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations.Natural convection is related with an increasing number of fields including oceanography, meteorol-ogy and geophysical context [1, 2, 4]. Moreover, because of its presence both in nature and engi-neering applications, it has highly taken attention from academic societies. The accurate and efficientnumerical solu...
A density functional theory study on the structural and electronic properties of PbxSbySez (x plus y plus z=2, 3) clusters
Pekoz, Rengin; Erkoç, Şakir (2018-01-30)
The structural and electronic properties of neutral ternary PbxSbySez clusters (x y + z = 2, 3) in their ground states have been explored by means of density functional theory calculations. The geometric structures and binding energies are systematically explored and for the most stable configurations of each cluster type vibrational frequencies, charges on atoms, energy difference between highest occupied and lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals, and the possible dissociations channels have been analyzed. ...
