Trace metal composition of particulate matter of the Danube River and Turkish rivers draining into the Black Sea

We determined the composition of particles from several rivers entering the Black Sea as part of a broader study of the composition of suspended matter and sediments in the Black Sea. Suspended matter and surface sediment samples were collected from the Danube River draining from Europe and from four Turkish rivers (Sakarya, Yenice (Filyos), Kizilirmak and Yesilirmak Rivers) in Anatolia. All samples were digested and analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and atomic absorption spectrometry...
Trace metal composition of particulate matter in the water column and sediments of the Black Sea and regional rivers
Yiğiterhan, Oğuz; Yemenicioğlu, Semal; Department of Chemical Oceanography (2005)
The Black Sea, with its oxic, suboxic and anoxic layers, provides a unique environment for studying how biological and geochemical processes affect the composition of particulate matter. The elemental composition of particles in the Black Sea is controlled by their origin and sources. Particles from rivers are dominated by aluminosilicate material that has compositions similar to the earth̕s crust. In general this material is relatively unreactive. Biological processes in the upper oxic and suboxic layers o...

Trace metal composition of suspended particulate matter in the water column of the Black Sea
Yiğiterhan, O; Murray, J W; Tuğrul, Süleyman (Elsevier BV, 2011-09-20)
We analyzed the chemical composition of suspended matter from the Black Sea for a complete suite of elements used as tracers for various sources and processes. Samples of suspended matter were collected at four stations from the Bosporus to the center of the western gyre during a R/V Bilim cruise in September 2000. Sample depths were from the oxic surface layer, the suboxic zone and the upper part of the anoxic (sulfidic) layer. All samples were analyzed for Al, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn, Mo, Ag, Cd, Ba...
