Open problems in CEM: Porting an explicit time-domain volume-integral- equation solver on GPUs with OpenACC
Ergül, Özgür Salih; Al-Jarro, Ahmed; Clo, Alain; Bagci, Hakan (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2014-01-01)
Graphics processing units (GPUs) are gradually becoming mainstream in high-performance computing, as their capabilities for enhancing performance of a large spectrum of scientific applications to many fold when compared to multi-core CPUs have been clearly identified and proven. In this paper, implementation and performance-tuning details for porting an explicit marching-on-in-time (MOT)-based time-domain volume-integral-equation (TDVIE) solver onto GPUs are described in detail. To this end, a high-level ap...
Transformation Electromagnetics Based Analysis of Waveguides With Random Rough or Periodic Grooved Surfaces
Ozgun, Ozlem; Kuzuoğlu, Mustafa (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013-02-01)
A computational model is introduced which employs transformation-based media to increase the computational performance of finite methods (such as finite element or finite difference methods) for analyzing waveguides with grooves or rough surfaces. Random behavior of the roughness is taken into account by utilizing the Monte Carlo technique, which is based on a set of random rough surfaces generated from Gaussian distribution. The main objective of the proposed approach is to create a single mesh, and to ana...
Mutual coupling of printed elements on a cylindrically layered structure using closed-form Green's functions
Acar, R. C.; Dural, G. (EMW Publishing, 2008-01-01)
A hybrid method to calculate mutual coupling of electric or magnetic current elements on a cylindrically layered structure using closed-form Green's functions is presented. When rho = rho' and phi is not very close to phi', closed-form Green's functions are employed in the calculation of MoM matrix entries. When both rho = rho' and phi = phi', series representation of the spectral domain Green's functions do not converge, therefore closed-form Green's functions can not be employed. In that case MoM matrix e...
Distributed contact flip chip InGaN/GaN blue LED; comparison with conventional LEDs

This paper presents high performance, GaN/InGaN-based light emitting diodes (LEDs) in three different device configurations, namely Top Emitting (TE) LED, conventional Flip Chip (FC) and Distributed Contact (DC) FC. Series resistances as low as 1.1 Omega have been obtained from FC device configurations with a back reflecting ohmic contact of Ni/Au/RTA/Ni/Ag metal stack. A small shift has been observed between electroluminescence (EL) emissions of TE LED and the FC LEDs. In addition, FWHM value of the EL emi...
Multiobjective Optimization of the DC-DC Stage of a Module-Integrated Inverter Based on an Efficiency Usage Model
Mirjafari, Mehran; Balog, Robert S.; Turan, Raşit (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2014-05-01)
As photovoltaic (PV) energy continues to gain market penetration due to the lower cost of PV modules, attention is shifting to the balance of system. In this paper, a new efficiency evaluation technique based on a usage model that is synthesized from high-temporal operational data of a PV module is investigated, along with a multiobjective design optimization of the dc-dc stage of a module-integrated inverter. The analysis shows that the technique provides more accurate results than the California Energy Co...
