Construction of treatment incomplete block designs: An integer programming approach

1997-08-01
In many areas of Science, such as Industry, Agriculture, Biology and Medicine, while performing experiments, the problem of Multiple Comparison with Control is often encountered. Some new varieties (or test treatments) become of interest and existing one, called the control, is eventually be replaced by one of these new varieties. Balanced Incomplete Block Designs introduced by Bechhofer and Tamhane (1981), are appropriate for such comparison. This class of designs is latter extended to a larger class of partially Balanced type of designs by using the concept of Group Divisible Schemes.

Sustainability as an Educational Concern: A Study on Industrial Design Curricula
Turhan, Senem (null; 2009-04-09)
With the emergence of sustainability, it became an important concern for curricula of industrial design education as for many other educational structures. Currently, lots of higher education institutions offer courses focusing on sustainability for various objectives. This study deals with the current situation of industrial design education in the world by means of sustainability as an educational concern. It starts with the examination of a variety of sustainable development definitions and continues wi...
Criteria for the Evaluation of Workflow Management Systems for Scientific Data Analysis
Dilan Kiran, Aleyna; Ay, Mehmet Can; Alllmer, Jens (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi Enformatik Enstitüsü; 2022-10)
Many scientific endeavors, such as molecular biology, have become dependent on largescale data and its analysis. For example, precision medicine depends on molecular measurements and data analysis on a per-patient basis. Data analysis, supporting medical decisions, has to be standardized and performed in a consistent manner across patients. While perhaps not life-threatening, data analyses in basic research have become increasingly complex. RNA-seq data, for example, entails a multi-step analysis ranging fr...
Stochastic modeling of accident risks associated with an underground coal mine in Turkey
Sari, Mehmet; Kestel, Sevtap Ayşe; Karpuz, Celal; Duzgun, H. Sebnem B. (2009-01-01)
In this study, a methodology is proposed towards development of all uncertainty model that includes randomness in the occurrence of days-lost accidents in a coal mine. The accident/injury data consists of 1390 days-lost accident cases recorded at GLI-Tuncbilek underground lignite mine from January 1994 to December 2002. In the first step of proposed methodology, the frequency and the severity of the accidents have been modeled statistically by fitting appropriate distributions. The test done by BestFit soft...
Automated biological data acquisition and integration using machine learning techniques
Çarkacıoğlu, Levent; Atalay, Mehmet Volkan; Department of Computer Engineering (2009)
Since the initial genome sequencing projects along with the recent advances on technology, molecular biology and large scale transcriptome analysis result in data accumulation at a large scale. These data have been provided in different platforms and come from different laboratories therefore, there is a need for compilation and comprehensive analysis. In this thesis, we addressed the automatization of biological data acquisition and integration from these non-uniform data using machine learning techniques....
Comparative statistical microarray analysis of yeast data under heat shock stress
Varol, Duygu; Purutçuoğlu Gazi, Vilda; Yılmaz, Remziye; Department of Statistics (2014)
The microarray technology is one of the widely used experimental methods in biological and biochemical sciences. By this innovation, a number of genes can be analyzed simultaneously by means of statistical methods. Hereby in this study we analyze a new one-channel microarray dataset that is measured to investigate the changes in heat shock stress of yeast. The data that are generated in the Molecular Biology and Biotechnology R-D Center at the Middle East Technical University has not been evaluated yet in d...
