New zinc(II)-based catalyst for asymmetric azomethine ylide cycloaddition reactions
Doğan, Özdemir; GARNER, Philip; BULUT, Adnan; Youngs, Wiley J.; PANZNER, Matthew (American Chemical Society (ACS), 2006-10-12)
A new chiral aziridino alcohol ligand for zinc(II)-catalyzed azomethine ylide cycloadditions is described. In the presence of this catalyst, N-arylidene glycine methyl esters react with a variety of dipolarophiles to give substituted pyrrolidines in very good to excellent chemical yields and up to 95% ee. The absolute sense of asymmetric induction appears to be dipolarophile-dependent.
New phosphine oxide type organocatalyts for the asymmetric synthesis of organic compounds

New conjugated materials containing cyano substituents for light-emitting diodes
Çırpan, Ali; Günbaş, Emrullah Görkem; KARASZ, Frank E. (Elsevier BV, 2006-02-01)
New electroluminescent cyano-substituted phenylenevinylene (PV) monomeric and oligomeric chromophores, 1–3, were synthesized by Knoevenagel condensation and investigated in terms of their photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL) behavior. All show PL emission maxima between 463 and 471 nm in solution with quantum efficiencies of 0.65, 0.46 and 0.68, respectively. EL maxima in an LED configuration ITO/PEDOT–PSS/1–3/Ca–Al were 507, 518 and 551 nm with luminance efficiencies 0.01, 0.05 and 0.02 cd/A...
New synthetic methodology for construction of the 3,4-dihydroisoquinolinone skeleton: A key structure for isoquinoline alkaloids
Mujde, Berk; Ozcan, Sevil; Balcı, Metin (Elsevier BV, 2011-12-01)
We hereby report a new method for preparation of 3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one as well as isoquinolin-1(2H)-one skeleton starting from the methyl 2-(3-methoxy-3-oxopropyl) benzoate. The ester functionality, adjacent to the methylene, was regiospecifically converted to the desired acyl azide. The isocyanate was transformed into the monoisocyanate by Curtius rearrangement followed by trapping with aniline. The formed urea derivative was cyclized with NaH to give a 3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-1(2H)-one derivativ...
