Privatization of Security as a State-Led and Class-Driven Process: The Case of Turkey
Dolek, Caglar (2015-07-01)
Private security has become a central form of everyday policing in the Southern and Northern countries alike, and has thereby redefined the modern conception of security, conventionally understood as the exclusive domain of the state. The relevant academic literature has seemed to problematize the issue either as a facet of the erosion of state monopoly of violence or as a dispersion of neoliberal governmentality. Amongst these is the decision, undertaken in the second part of 2009, to reboot...

The theses also traces the audience attitudes and beliefs towards the magazine programs in Turkey. The results suggested that programs do not represent any threat to the existing hegemony. On the contrary, it is more plausible to suggest that they represent a serious support to the existing order. The audience reactions revealed...
A research on the representation of Turkish national identity : buildings abroad
Zelef, M. Haluk; Önür, Selahattin; Department of Architecture (2003)
This thesis is the result of an attempt to record, classify and develop an understanding of the motivations and dynamics in the design and realization of the buildings that explicitly or implicitly represent the Turkish identity abroad. In the meantime it is aimed to reflect on and identify the function of architecture and buildings in the formulation and representation of national identity. Besides the analysis of the meanings assigned to the architectural forms, one underlying intention was to clarify how...
