An application of the synchronous code division multiple access (S/CDMA) technique in intensity modulation-direct detection fiber-optic local area networks is presented. The design method of the codewords of the optical orthogonal codes (OOC) based on the extended set concept is modified to design codes suitable for the S/CDMA system. It is shown that using shifted codewords and synchronized operation among the users reduce the length of the codewords compared to A/CDMA. Hence, better bandwidth utilization and increased number of the users in a fiber-optics local area network can be realized at the expense of increased complexity.

Data sharing using mqtt and zigbee-based dds on resource-constrained contiki-based devices
Yıldırım, Tunahan; Oğuztüzün, Mehmet Halit S.; Department of Computer Engineering (2020)
This thesis describes the implementation of data sharing among resource-constrained IoT devices using two different middleware: MQTT(Message Queuing Telemetry Transport) and DDS (Data Distribution Services) for Real-Time Systems. In our setting, all IoT devices run under the Contiki operating system. In the configuration for DDS, a pair of Texas Instruments’ MSP430 processor-based ZigBee powered Advanticsys XM1000 device is used to realize data sharing between wireless sensor network devices without a serve...
Age-Optimal Channel Coding Blocklength for an M/G/1 Queue with HARQ
Sac, Hakan; Bacinoglu, Tan; Uysal, Elif; Durisi, Giuseppe (2018-08-24)
We consider a communication system in which a source transmits information updates to a destination node through a binary erasure channel (BEC). When a packet containing an information update, which consists of a fixed number of information bits, arrives at the transmitter, it gets queued in a buffer, to be encoded and sent over the channel. Before transmitting a packet, the transmitter selects a channel coding blocklength n and then uses an automatic repeat request (ARQ) protocol, whereby packets that are ...
Transmit Precoding for Flat-Fading MIMO Multiuser Systems With Maximum Ratio Combining Receivers
Coskun, Adem; Candan, Çağatay (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2011-02-01)
We examine the application of transmit precoding in multiuser multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) communication systems with maximum ratio combining (MRC) receivers. In many multiuser applications, the maximum-likelihood or minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receivers can be prohibitive to implement due to their high implementation complexity. We examine the performance of the system with simple MRC receivers and carefully selected precoders, which are designed to compensate the lack of high-complexity receivers,...
Efficient User Grouping for Hybrid Beamforming in Single Carrier Wideband Massive MIMO Channels
Kilcioglu, Emre; Güvensen, Gökhan Muzaffer (2021-01-01)
In this paper, three types of user grouping algorithms in which our own performance metric is utilized are investigated for single carrier downlink wideband spatially correlated massive MIMO channels by using hybrid beamforming structure motivated by the joint spatial division and multiplexing (JSDM) framework. The user grouping procedure consists of two stages. Internally, our own metric called as the achievable information rate (AIR) is calculated given a user grouping input by considering both inter-grou...
Differential network coding in wireless networks Telsiz aǧlarda farksal aǧ kodlamasi
Özdemir, Özgür; Yılmaz, Ali Özgür (2009-10-29)
In this paper a three-terminal communication scenario where two users exchange information by employing differential binary modulation and network coding via a relay is considered. The transmission is divided into three slots in time where the first and second slots are allocated to the transmission of differential encoded data of the users. After demodulation, the relay broadcasts the bit-wise XOR-ed and differential encoded packet to the users in the third slot. The optimum detector and a simplified decis...
