We demonstrate that supercritical carbon dioxide deposition is a very effective technology for decorating multi-wall carbon nano-tubes with platinum nanoparticles with an average size as small as 2 nm and with a very narrow size distribution. Platinum loading can be controlled thermodynamically based on the adsorption isotherm of the platinum precursor between the supercritical carbon dioxide phase and the carbon nanotube phase. Heterojunction solar cells with integrated Si and ZnO nanowires and a chalcopyrite thin film
KARAAĞAÇ, Hakan; Parlak, Mehmet; YENGEL, Emre; Islam, M. Saif (Elsevier BV, 2013-06-15)
ZnO nanowires (NWs) have been successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal technique on both glass and silicon substrates initially coated with a sputtered ZnO thin film layer. Varying ZnO seed layer thicknesses were deposited to determine the effect of seed layer thickness on the quality of ZnO NW growth. The effect of growth time on the formation of ZnO NWs was also studied. Experimental results show that these two parameters have an important effect on formation, homogeneity and vertical orientation of ...
Enhancement of H-2 Storage in Carbon Nanotubes via Doping with a Boron Nitride Ring
Onay, Aytun Koyuncular; Erkoç, Şakir (American Scientific Publishers, 2009-04-01)
Hydrogen storage capacity of carbon nanotubes with different chirality have been investigated by performing quantum chemical methods at semiempirical and DFT levels of calculations. It has been found that boron nitrite substitutional doping increases the hydrogen storage capacity of carbon nanotubes.
Determination of deep trapping center parameters in as-grown Tl2Ga2S3Se layered crystals
YILDIRIM, TACETTİN; Hasanlı, Nızamı (Elsevier BV, 2009-09-01)
Thermally stimulated current measurements were carried out on as-grown Tl2Ga2S3Se layered single crystals. The investigations were performed in temperatures ranging from 10 to 320 K with heating rates of 0.6-1.2 K s(-1). The analysis of the data revealed the hole trap level located at 498 meV. The activation energies of the traps have been determined using various methods of analysis, and they agree with each other. The calculation for these traps yielded 2.1 x 10(-18) cm(2) for capture cross-section and 2....
Comparison of the short and long-term degradation behaviors of as-cast pure Mg, AZ91 and WE43 alloys
Ocal, Ezgi Butev; ESEN, ZİYA; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Dericioğlu, Arcan Fehmi (Elsevier BV, 2020-02-01)
The corrosion behaviors of pure magnesium, AZ91, and WE43 alloys have been evaluated by weight loss, hydrogen evolution rate, pH change measurements and potentiodynamic polarization as well as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. Main corrosion product formed on the surface of Mg/Mg-alloys after immersion of 24 h was Mg(OH)(2) on the other hand, at the end of the 20 days additional CaCO3 which was found to display a critical role in degradation characteristics of the samples, was found. Exa...
Stress distributions in cooling fins of variable thickness with and without rotation
Eraslan, Ahmet Nedim (Informa UK Limited, 2005-08-01)
A computational model is developed to predict elastic and elastic-plastic stress distribution in a nonlinearly hardening cooling fin of variable thickness subject to centrifugal force. The model is based on a realistic conduction-convection mechanism, von Mises yield criterion, Henky's deformation theory and a Swift-type strain hardening law. Temperature dependency of modulus of elasticity, uniaxial yield limit, coefficient of thermal expansion, and thermal conductivity of the fin material is taken into acc...
