The Virtual Marathon: Parallel Computing Supports Crowd Simulations
Yılmaz, Erdal; Isler, Veysi; Cetin, Yasemin Yardimci (2009-07-01)
To be realistic, an urban model must include appropriate numbers of pedestrians, vehicles, and other dynamic entities. Using a parallel-computing architecture, researchers simulated a marathon with more than a million participants. To simulate participant behavior, they used fuzzy logic on a GPU to perform millions of inferences in real time.
The MACS project: An approach to affordance-inspired robot control
Rome, Erich; Paletta, Lucas; Şahin, Erol; Dorffner, Georg; Hertzberg, Joachim; Breithaupt, Ralph; Fritz, Gerald; Irran, Joerg; Kintzler, Florian; Loerken, Christopher; May, Stefan; Ugur, Emre (2006-06-09)
In this position paper, we present an outline of the MACS approach to affordance-inspired robot control. An affordance, a concept from Ecological Psychology, denotes a specific relationship between an animal and its environment. Perceiving an affordance means perceiving an interaction possibility that is specific for the animal's perception and action capabilities. Perceiving an affordance does not include appearance-based object recognition, but rather feature-based perception of object functions. The cent...
The Karakaya Complex: A review of data and concepts
Okay, AI; Göncüoğlu, Mehmet Cemal (2004-05-01)
The Karakaya Complex in the Pontides consists of highly deformed and partly metamorphosed clastic and volcanic series of Permian and Triassic age. It is generally subdivided into two parts: The structurally lower part, called the Lower Karakaya Complex, consists of a mafic lava-mafic pyroclastite-shale-limestone succession metamorphosed in the greenschist and blueschist facies during the Late Palaeozoic or Triassic. The structurally upper part is made up of highly deformed Permian and Triassic clastic, volc...
