Evaluation of a satellite-based global flood monitoring system
Yılmaz, Koray Kamil; Tian, Yudong; Hong, Yang; Pierce, Harold F. (2010-01-01)
This study provides an initial evaluation of a global flood monitoring system (GFMS) using satellite-based precipitation and readily available geospatial datasets. The GFMS developed by our group uses a relatively simple hydrologic model, based on the run-off curve number method, to transform precipitation into run-off. A grid-to-grid routing scheme moves run-off downstream. Precipitation estimates are from the TRMM Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA). We first evaluated the TMPA algorithm using a...

The great success of the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) and its successor Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) has accelerated the development of global high-resolution satellite-based precipitation products (SPP). However, the quantitative accuracy of SPPs has to be evaluated before using these datasets in water resource applications. This study evaluates the following GPM-era and TRMM-era SPPs based on two years (2014-2015) of reference daily precipitation data from rain gauge networks in te...

Evaluation of photovoltaic systems for voltage quality
Şengül, Deniz; Göl, Murat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2018)
Because of the governmental incentives and developing photovoltaic technology, the distributed photovoltaic systems are populating rapidly in power systems. This rapid population brings with concerns about voltage quality of the power systems. This thesis aims to evaluate the effects of those plants to the voltage quality of power systems in terms of voltage regulation and flicker. The thesis develops a statistical analysis method by developing metrics for a photovoltaic power plant located in Ankara, using...
