Cherenkov‐type sharp energy dissipation associated with kinks (solitons) moving harmonically in the atmosphere of paraelastic interstitial atoms
Oğurtanı, Tarık Ömer (AIP Publishing, 1989-12)
A geometric kink (soliton) moving rigidly and harmonically in the cloud of paraelastic interstitials showing hypo‐Snoek and hyper‐Snoek viscosity regimes, is described by a second order ordinary differential equation with a nonlinear Debye‐type dissipative drag term. The computer simulations on this system show not only the existence of the dissipative resonance behavior with zero Q−1 factor but also the occurrence of the unusually sharp (quasi‐quantum jumps) energy dissipations, like the Cherenkov radiatio...
Ermakov's Superintegrable Toy and Nonlocal Symmetries
Leach, P. G. L.; Karasu, Emine Ayşe; Nucci, M. C.; Andriopoulos, K. (SIGMA (Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Application), 2005-01-01)
We investigate the symmetry properties of a pair of Ermakov equations. The system is superintegrable and yet possesses only three Lie point symmetries with the algebra sl(2, R). The number of point symmetries is insufficient and the algebra unsuitable for the complete specification of the system. We use the method of reduction of order to reduce the nonlinear fourth-order system to a third-order system comprising a linear second-order equation and a conservation law. We obtain the representation of the comp...
Lyapunov type inequalities and their applications for linear and nonlinear systems under impulse effect
Kayar, Zeynep; Ağacık, Zafer; Department of Mathematics (2014)
In this thesis, Lyapunov type inequalities and their applications for impulsive systems of linear/nonlinear differential equations are studied. Since systems under impulse effect are one of the fundamental problems in most branches of applied mathematics, science and technology, investigation of their theory has developed rapidly in the last three decades. In addition, Lyapunov type inequalities have become a popular research area in recent years due to the fact that they provide not only better understandi...
Porewater redox species and processes in the Black Sea sediments
Konovalov, Sergey K.; Luther, George W.; Yücel, Mustafa (2007-11-15)
During the 2003 KNORR and the 2005 ENDEAVOR cruises to the Black Sea, voltammetric solid-state microelectrode data were collected for the vertical distribution of redox species in porewaters from the upper 200 to 300 mm layer of sediments with nun vertical resolution. We discuss vertical distributions of dissolved sulfide, manganese and iron species in sediments from the oxic, suboxic, anoxic/sulfidic parts of the Black Sea. Results of voltammetric profiling demonstrate many processes governing the porewate...
