Witnessing pairing correlations in identical-particle systems
Aksak, Cagan; Turgut, Sadi (2021-12-01)
Quantum correlations and entanglement in identical-particle systems have been a puz-zling question which has attracted vast interest and widely different approaches. Witness formalism developed first for entanglement measurement can be adopted to other kind of correlations. An approach is introduced by Kraus et al., [Phys. Rev. A 79, 012306 (2009)] based on pairing correlations in fermionic systems and the use of witness formalism to detect pairing. In this contribution, a two-particle-annihilation operator...
Imaging solar cells using terahertz waves
Kayra, Seda; Altan, Hakan; Department of Physics (2011)
In this thesis, Terahertz Time-Domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) was used in order to measure the electrical properties of silicon solar cells. The advantage of THz-TDS is that it allows us to measure the electrical properties without electrical contacts. In order to perform these measurements, a reflection based system was constructed and the changes in the peak amplitude in the time-domain under a, 450mW 808 nm continuous wave laser source were measured. The solar cell that was used in this thesis was manufac...
Near-field observations of self-collimation in photonic crystal superlattices
Hsieh, PinChun; Chung, ChungJen; Kocaman, Serdar; Biris, Claudiu; Lu, Ming; Panoiu, Nicolae; Wong, Chee Wei (2012-05-11)
We present experimental observations of self-collimation effect in photonic crystal superlattices consisting of photonics crystal region and homogeneous media. The high-resolution near-field scanning optical microscopy is supported by precise nanofabrication, and rigorous 3D-FDTD simulations.
Capturing inelastic coupling of internal forces and exact vibration frequencies for 3 d Timoshenko beam finite elements
Soydaş, Ozan; Sarıtaş, Afşin (null; 2016-08-28)
A three dimensional (3d) nonlinear frame finite element based on Timoshenko beam theory is presented in this analytical study by utilizing Hu-Washizu principle with displacement, strain and stress independent fields in the variational form. The finite element approximation for the beam uses shape functions for section forces that satisfy equilibrium and discontinuous section deformations along the beam. The element is free from shear-locking, and the superiority of the proposed model is displayed under nonl...
Probing signs of new physics at low energies: the neutrino case
Elpe, Altuğ; Turan, İsmail; Selbuz, Levent; Department of Physics (2023-1-27)
Neutrinos have a special place in particle physics. They are spin-1/2, electrically neutral, nearly massless, and very weakly interacting particles. Properties of weak interactions can be conveniently studied through neutrinos. They are assumed to be sensitive to new physics effects. Moreover, searching for new physics at low en- ergies has its motivations based on the null results about new physics at high ener- gies coming out of Hadron Colliders’ data. One of the favorite signs of new physics at low ener...
