Solute-specific pore water irrigation: Implications for chemical cycling in early diagenesis
Meile, C; Berg, P; Van Cappellen, P; Tuncay, Kağan (Journal of Marine Research/Yale, 2005-05-01)
In one-dimensional (1D) early diagenetic models, bioirrigation is typically represented by a nonlocal mass transfer or bioirrigation coefficient, alpha. Usually, all pore water species are assigned the same alpha. Here, we show that this assumption can lead to significant errors in estimates of bioirrigation intensities. Using a simplified early diagenetic reaction network, we compute the 3D concentration fields of major pore water species around a vertical burrow, as well as the solute fluxes across the bu...

Solvation of K+ in helium droplets
Yurtsever, E.; Yıldırım, Erol; Yurtsever, M.; Bodo, E.; Gianturco, F. A. (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2007-5-24)
Solvation of K+ in helium droplets is studied by classical simulation methods. We have previously shown that additive potentials can be used to describe structures of helium droplets when an ionic species is present. Here, we present an accurate ab-initio potential for the K+ - He interaction. Global minima of KHen+ for up to n=70 are searched for employing Basin Hopping Monte Carlo simulations with a random growth scheme. The extent of the solvation is analyzed. A clear formation of two shells with 15 and ...

Sol-gel synthesis and photocatalytic activity of B and Zr co-doped TiO2
Kapusuz, Derya; PARK, JONGEE; Öztürk, Abdullah (Elsevier BV, 2013-07-01)
Effects of boron (B) and/or zirconium (Zr) doping on photocatalytic activity of sol-gel derived titania (TiO2) powders were investigated. A conventional, non-hydrous sol-gel technique was applied to synthesize the B, Zr doped/co-doped TiO2 powders. Doping was made at molar ratios of Ti/B=1 and Ti/Zr=10. Sol-gel derived xero-gels were calcined at 500 degrees C for 3 h. The crystal chemistry and the morphology of the undoped and B, Zr doped/co-doped TiO2 nanoparticles were investigated using X-ray diffractome...
