Modeling of inelastic microstructure development and inhomogeneous material behavior via non convex rate dependent crystal plasticity
Svendsen, Bob; Klusemann, Benjamın; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay; Geers, M G D (2012-08-19)
In this study, a two-dimensional rate-dependent gradient crystal plasticity model for non-convex energetic hardening is formulated and applied to the simulation of inelastic microstructure formation. In particular, non-convex hardening is modeled via a Landau-Devonshire potential for self-hardening and an interaction-matrix-based form for latent hardening. The algorithmic formulation and numerical implementation treats the displacement and glide-system slips as the primary field variables. Example numerical...
Modeling of reversible gamma/alpha transformations of low carbon steels in the intercritical temperature range
Reti, T; Felde, I; Gür, Cemil Hakan (2004-10-28)
A phenomenological kinetic model has been developed for the prediction of non-isothermal reversible incomplete transformations in low-carbon hypoeutectoid steels. The theoretical basis of the proposed method has its origin in a possible extension of the traditional Austin-Rickett kinetic differential equation. To critically assess the applicability of the model, a number of experiments based on computer simulations have been performed to predict the austenite/ferrite proeutectoid transformation in the tempe...

Modeling of newtonian fluids and cuttings transport analysis in high inclination wellbores with pipe rotation
Sorgun, Mehmet; Parlaktuna, Mahmut; Aydın, İsmail; Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (2010)
This study aims to investigate hydraulics and the flow characteristics of drilling fluids inside annulus and to understand the mechanism of cuttings transport in horizontal and deviated wellbores. For this purpose, initially, extensive experimental studies have been conducted at Middle East Technical University, Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering Flow Loop using water and numerous drilling fluids for hole inclinations from horizontal to 60 degrees, flow velocities from 0.64 m/s to 3.05 m/s, rate of penetra...
Modeling of dislocation-grain boundary interactions in a strain gradient crystal plasticity framework
ÖZDEMİR, İZZET; Yalçınkaya, Tuncay (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 2014-08-01)
This paper focuses on the continuum scale modeling of dislocation-grain boundary interactions and enriches a particular strain gradient crystal plasticity formulation (convex counter-part of Yal double dagger inkaya et al., J Mech Phys Solids 59:1-17, 2011; Int J Solids Struct 49:2625-2636, 2012) by incorporating explicitly the effect of grain boundaries on the plastic slip evolution. Within the framework of continuum thermodynamics, a consistent extension of the model is presented and a potential type non-...
