In this study, chemical composition of coarse (PM2.5-10) and fine (PM2.5) aerosols and their seasonal characteristics was used to investigate factors affecting seasonal variations in concentrations of species. Concentrations of 17 trace elements and SO(4)(2-)were determined in coarse and fine aerosol samples collected at a high altitude (1115 m above sea level) site (Torul, 40 degrees 32'34 '' N 39 degrees 16'57 '' E) between March 2011 to November 2012 on the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey. The samples...
Temporal variation in aerosol composition at northwestern Turkey
Genç Tokgöz, D. Deniz; Tuncel, Süleyman Gürdal; Department of Environmental Engineering (2013)
Daily aerosol samples (PM) were collected at a rural station, which is 5 km away from the Turkish-Bulgarian border between April 2006 and March 2008. Aerosol samples were analyzed for elements by ICPMS, ions by IC and black carbon by aethalometer to provide a multi-species aerosol data set, which can represent aerosol population for Northwestern Turkey and Eastern Europe. Average concentration of SO42-, NO3- and NH4+ was 5.8, 2.9 and 2.0 μg m-3, respectively, while total aerosol mass was 66 μg m-3. Seasonal...

Temporal variations and sources of Eastern Mediterranean aerosols based on a 9-year observation

Concentrations of 48 elements, NO3-, SO42-, CI-, NH4+ and black carbon (BC) were determined in PM10 aerosols collected daily at a rural Eastern Mediterranean (EM) site (Antalya, 30.34 degrees E, 36.47 degrees N) from 1993 to 2001. Temporal variations (daily, seasonal and long term), sources and source regions of EM aerosols were delineated. Concentrations of elements with marine and crustal origin were more episodic as compared to anthropogenic ones. Most of the variables showed well defined seasonal cycles...
