Adaptive Lagrangian-Eulerian computation of propagation and rupture of a liquid plug in a tube
Hassan, Ez A.; Uzgoren, Eray; Fujioka, Hideki; Grotberg, James B.; Shyy, Wei (Wiley, 2011-12-20)
Liquid plug propagation and rupture occurring in lung airways can have a detrimental effect on epithelial cells. In this study, a numerical simulation of a liquid plug in an infinite tube is conducted using an EulerianLagrangian approach and the continuous interface method. A reconstruction scheme is developed to allow topological changes during plug rupture by altering the connectivity information about the interface mesh. Results prior to the rupture are in reasonable agreement with the study of Fujioka e...
Adaptive fuzzy hysteresis band current control for reducing switching losses of hybrid active power filter
Durna, Emre (2018-05-01)
Although hysteresis band current control is an easy to implement and robust control method for industrial power electronics converters, it has also some disadvantages like variable and high switching frequency causing high switching losses. In this study, a novel adaptive fuzzy hysteresis band current control system is proposed by making use of fuzzy expressions of both hybrid active power filter (HAPF) current and integral of its harmonic components to reduce the switching losses of three-phase three-wire ...
Adaptive discontinuous galerkin methods for non-linear reactive flows
Uzunca, Murat; Karasözen, Bülent; Department of Mathematics (2014)
The aim of this thesis is to solve the convection/reaction dominated non-stationary semi-linear diffusion-convection-reaction problems with internal/boundary layers in an accurate and efficient way using a time-space adaptive algorithm. We use for space discretization the symmetric interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin method, and backward Euler for time discretization. Our main interest is to derive robust residual-based a posteriori error estimators both in space and time. To derive the a posteriori bou...
Adaptive discontinuous Galerkin approximation of optimal control problems governed by transient convection-diffusion equations
Stoll, Martin; Yücel, Hamdullah; Benner, Peter (2018-01-01)
In this paper, we investigate a posteriori error estimates of a control-constrained optimal control problem governed by a time-dependent convection diffusion equation. The control constraints are handled by using the primal-dual active set algorithm as a semi-smooth Newton method and by adding a Moreau-Yosida-type penalty function to the cost functional. Residual-based error estimators are proposed for both approaches. The derived error estimators are used as error indicators to guide the mesh refinements. ...
Adaptive Symmetric Interior Penalty Galerkin (SIPG) method for optimal control of convection diffusion equations with control constraints
Yücel, Hamdullah; Karasözen, Bülent (2014-01-02)
In this paper, we study a posteriori error estimates of the upwind symmetric interior penalty Galerkin (SIPG) method for the control constrained optimal control problems governed by linear diffusion-convection-reaction partial differential equations. Residual based error estimators are used for the state, the adjoint and the control. An adaptive mesh refinement indicated by a posteriori error estimates is applied. Numerical examples are presented for convection dominated problems to illustrate the theoretic...
