In this study, a numerical analysis is performed to investigate the freezing process of phase change materials (PCM) in a predesigned thermal energy storage (TES) device. This TES device is integrated with a milk storage cooling cycle operating under predefined practical conditions. Using this cooling unit, 100 litres of milk is kept cool at 4 degrees C for 48 hours before it is collected. A 2-D model of the TES device is developed in COMSOL Multiphysics to analyze the phase change performance of water-base...

Numerical Analysis of Viscoelastic Fluids in Steady Pressure-Driven Channel Flow
YAPICI, KERİM; Karasözen, Bülent; Uludağ, Yusuf (2012-05-01)
The developing steady flow of Oldroyd-B and Phan-Thien-Tanner (PTT) fluids through a two-dimensional rectangular channel is investigated computationally by means of a finite volume technique incorporating uniform collocated grids. A second-order central difference scheme is employed to handle convective terms in the momentum equation, while viscoelastic stresses are approximated by a third-order accurate quadratic upstream interpolation for convective kinematics (QUICK) scheme. Momentum interpolation method...
Numerical analysis of natural convective heat transfer through porous medium
Aylangan, Benan; Yüncü, Hafit; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2006)
In this thesis, natural convective heat transfer through an impermeable and fluid saturated porous medium is investigated numerically. A FORTRAN based code is developed and used in order to present the outputs of the applied model and the assumptions. The solutions of flow fields and temperature fields are presented within the medium. Moreover, Nusselt number variations for different values of Darcy, Prandtl, and Rayleigh numbers, and some other thermodynamic properties are investigated and presented. Compa...
NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER OF NANOFLUIDS FOR LAMINAR FLOW IN A CIRCULAR TUBE
Kirez, Oguz; Güvenç Yazıcıoğlu, Almıla; KAKAÇ, SADIK (2012-11-15)
In this study, a numerical analysis of heat transfer enhancement of Alumina/water nanofluid in a steady-state, single-phase, laminar flow in a circular duct is presented for the case of constant wall heat flux and constant wall temperature boundary conditions. The analysis is performed with a newly suggested model (Corcione) for effective thermal conductivity and viscosity, which show the effects of temperature and nanoparticle diameter. The results for Nusselt number and heat transfer enhancement are prese...
