Toxicity of nonylphenol diethoxylate in lab-scale anaerobic digesters
Bozkurt, Hande; Sanin, Faika Dilek (2014-06-01)
Nonylphenol compounds have high commercial, industrial and domestic uses owing to their surface active properties. In addition to their toxic, carcinogenic and persistent characteristics; they have drawn the attention of scientists lately due to their endocrine disrupting properties. Their widespread use and disposal cause them to enter wastewater treatment systems at high concentrations. Since they are highly persistent and hydrophobic, they accumulate mostly on sludge.
Toxicity of 2,4-D acid to phytoplankton
Okay, OS; Gaines, A (Elsevier BV, 1996-03-01)
The toxic effects of 2,4-D on Phaedoactylum tricornutum (Bohlin) and Dunaliella tertiolecta (Butcher), two species of phytoplankton well suited to bioassay studies and responsive to pollutants, were studied by monitoring changes in growth in terms of cell populations, chlorophyll fluorescence and the rate of (CO2)-C-14 assimilation. Short term bioassays, batch and continuous cultures were studied. Pure 2,4-D acid appeared more toxic than the commercial amine form of the herbicide but this may have been due ...
Degradation of Bisphenol A in Natural and Artificial Marine and Freshwaters in Turkey
Kocaman, Emel; Özhan, Koray (2019-09-01)
Bisphenol A (BPA), one of the important synthetic chemicals, has been produced at high volumes since the 1960s. These chemicals are commonly detected in the marine and freshwater environments; however, their transformation in aquatic environments depends on many parameters. This study aims to investigate the degradation of BPA in marine and freshwaters under different conditions in terms of microbial degradation, photodegradation, and temperature effect. The results showed that BPA content in samples prepar...
