Diffraction-limited, 10-W, 5-ns, 100-kHz, all-fiber laser at 1.55 mu m
Pavlov, Ihor; Ilbey, E.; Ilday, F. O. (The Optical Society, 2014-05-01)
This Letter reports on an all-fiber-integrated master-oscillator, power amplifier system at 1.55 mu m producing 5-ns, 100-mu J pulses. These pulses are generated at a 100 kHz repetition rate, corresponding to 10 W of average power. The seed source is a low-power, current-modulated, single-frequency, distributed feedback semiconductor laser. System output is obtained from a standard single-mode fiber (Corning SMF-28). Consequently, the beam is truly diffraction limited, which was independently proven by M-2 ...
Impedance boundary conditions for time-domain computational aeroacoustics methods
Özyörük, Yusuf (null; 1997-01-01)
A time-domain impedance condition method has been developed for computational aeroacoustics applications. The basis for this method is the standard impedance condition stated in the frequency domain as the particle displacement continuity equation. The development of the time-domain impedance condition follows the relations among the frequency, z-, and discrete-time domains and a rational function representation of the impedance in the z-domain. The resultant impedance condition is finite, infinite-impulse-...

Interglitch braking indices of pulsars and energy dissipation in neutron stars
Alpar, MA (1997-08-16)
Braking indices reported for pulsars with large glitches are in agreement with the models developed for the glitches and interglitch braking indices observed from the Vela pulsar, implying that this dynamical behavior may be universal among pulsars. This implies a lower limit on the lag in rotation rate between the crust and the superfluid components of the neutron star, and on the energy dissipation rate of the neutron star. If the magnetic fields of isolated neutron stars do not decay, then dipole radiati...
Perturbation parameters associated with nonlinear responses of the head at small amplitudes
Gürses, Senih; Dhaher, Y; Hain, TC; Keshner, EA (2005-06-01)
The head-neck system has multiple degrees of freedom in both its control and response characteristics, but is often modeled as a single joint mechanical system. In this study, we have attempted to quantify the perturbation parameters that would elicit nonlinear responses in a single degree-of-freedom neuromechanical system at small amplitudes and velocities of perturbation. Twelve healthy young adults seated on a linear sled randomly received anterior-posterior sinusoidal translations with +/- 15 mm and +/-...
