Recovery of sericin protein from silk processing wastewaters by membrane technology
Aygün, Saniye Seylan; Geçit, M. Ruşen; Department of Engineering Sciences (2008)
Cocoon cooking wastewaters (CW) and silk degumming wastewaters (SDW) of silk processing industry were treated by membrane processes for sericin recovery. CW contains only sericin while SDW contains both sericin and soap. Sericin in CW had four molecular weight (MW) fractions; 175-200 kDa (Sericin-1), 70-90 kDa (Sericin-2), 30-40 kDa (Sericin-3) and 10-25 kDa (Sericin-4). Two alternative process trains were developed for CW; 1. centrifugation + microfiltration + nanofiltration + precipitation, 2. centrifugat...

Modeling temporal variation of scouring at dual bridge piers
Selamoğlu, Meriç; Yanmaz, Ali Melih; Köken, Mete; Department of Civil Engineering (2015)
Computation of temporal evolution of scour depth around bridge piers is essential for the efficient design of bridge pier footings. In this thesis, empirical scour-prediction equations and a semi-empirical model are developed to predict the temporal variation of maximum clear-water scour depth at dual cylindrical uniform piers with identical size in tandem arrangement. Experiments are conducted using different pier size, pier spacing, and flow intensities. The semi-empirical model is based on sediment conti...
The effects of icon design and background color on visual search performance and user preferences
Bumin, Barış; Şener Pedgley, Bahar; Department of Industrial Design (2020-9)
One of the most crucial points for the graphical user interfaces is that visual information on the screen must be perceived accurately, fast and effortlessly as much as possible. However, perceiving visual information accurately and finding their location on the screen requires some visual search even in familiar operating environments. Thus, visual search performance is an effective way in order to measure the effects of different visual presentation on users’ processing speed. In the present study, the ef...
