Wind loads acting on solar panels in a row by CFD analysis
Uslu, Veysel Emre; Sarıtaş, Afşin; Uzol, Oğuz (null; 2016-08-28)
Wind loads acting on ground mounted solar panels are studied by computational fluid dynamic (CFD) analysis. In order to investigate wind loads acting on these panels, steady state SST k- turbulence model is considered in CFD analyses undertaken in this study. 2D and 3D numerical models are considered in the verification studies to assess the accuracy of the employed methods with respect to available data in the literature. Then, 2D CFD analysis is chosen due t...
Wind energy assessment in Turkey
Taşdemiroğlu, Erol (Elsevier BV, 1987-1)
Long-term wind speed measurements from 117 stations in Turkey have been evaluated in order to find prospective sites for building large scale wind-power machines. Based on these measurements, monthly mean isopleth maps as well as an annual mean density map for wind speed have been produced. Using the Weibull distributions, the available annual mean power and the variations with altitude have been computed for the selected stations. Finally the applicability of these systems to this country is discussed.
Wind resource assessment and wind farm modeling in complex terrain : Bodrum peninsula case study using computational fluid dynamics
Özdede, Semih; Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2013)
Wind Resource Assessment studies have become remarkable research tool to determine the possible Wind Farm locations in last two decades. Wind Farm Modeling is essential to pinpoint the wind turbines in selected region by simulating the possible layout designs of Wind Farm in advance. These studies provide improvements in cost efficiency and Annual Energy Production with the aid of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In this study, the methodologies of Wind Resource Assessment and Wind Farm Modeling are exam...
Wind field simulation in a wind farm using openfoam and actuator line model
Önel, Hüseyin Can; Tuncer, İsmail Hakkı (2019-05-14)
In this study, a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) is modeled using so called Actuator Line Model (ALM), where full resolution of boundary layer over turbine blades is not needed and hence computation is cheaper. Results are validated against other numerical and experimental studies as well as panel method (XFOIL) and Blade Element Momentum Theory (BEMT) results which are still widely employed in today’s wind energy industry. Important simulation and operation parameters and their effects on accuracy are ...
