Plasma modification of PMMA films: surface free energy and cell-attachment studies
Ozcan, Canturk; Hasırcı, Nesrin (2007-06-01)
The surface of a material is the most important part determining the acceptance by and compatibility with the environment. In many cases, although the bulk properties are excellent for a specific application, the surface may require to be modified and engineered in the desired direction. This is especially important for materials used in biological media, since the surface charge, hydophilicity and wettability are important for thrombosis formation, cell attachment or cell proliferation. In this study, poly...
Plasma Generation in a Gas Discharge System With Irradiated Porous Zeolite
Ozturk, Sevgul; Ozner, Metin; Bulur, Enver; Salamov, Bahtiyar G. (2015-06-01)
The influence of pressure [from atmospheric pressure (AP) to 10(-2) torr] and beta-radiation (1-kGy beta doses) on the current-voltage characteristics, charge trapping effects in porous surfaces, and breakdown voltage (UB) in AP microplasmas are discussed for the first time. This is due to the zeolite cathode (ZC) exposure to beta-radiation resulting in substantial decreases in the UB, discharge currents, and conductivity due to increase in porosity of the material. Results indicated the enhancement of plas...
Plasma-initiated polymerization of acrylamide both in the solid and liquid states.

Plasma surface modification and characterization of pmma films
Özgen, Özge; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2011)
Surface properties play an essential role for determining the behavior of a material for many applications such as coating, printing, adhesion and prosthesis implanting since the surface is the first part that comes in contact with the environment. Although the bulk properties of some materials are at the desired level, the surface may need to be modified for a better compatibility with its surrounding. Plasma treatment is one generally preferred technique because of its high potential to create various fun...
Plasma polymerization of selected organic compounds
Dilsiz, N; Akovali, G (1996-01-01)
Plasma polymerization reactions and plasma polymers of xylene/air, xylene/argon, xylene/air/argon, toluene/air/argon, dioxane and allyl cyanide were compared with respect to discharge power (between 50 and 500 W), where all other plasma operational parameters were kept constant. In plasma polymerization, the glow characteristics are known to play an important role depending on the factor W/F,where W is the discharge power and Fis the monomer flow rate. In plasma polymerization reactions, it is known that de...
