A Parametric Estimation Approach to Instantaneous Spectral Imaging
Öktem, Sevinç Figen; Davila, Joseph M (2014-12-01)
Spectral imaging, the simultaneous imaging and spectroscopy of a radiating scene, is a fundamental diagnostic technique in the physical sciences with widespread application. Due to the intrinsic limitation of two-dimensional (2D) detectors in capturing inherently three-dimensional (3D) data, spectral imaging techniques conventionally rely on a spatial or spectral scanning process, which renders them unsuitable for dynamic scenes. In this paper, we present a nonscanning (instantaneous) spectral imaging techn...
A posterior preference articulation approach to multiresponse surface optimization
Lee, Dong-Hee; Kim, Kwang-Jae; Köksalan, Mustafa Murat (2011-04-16)
In multiresponse surface optimization (MRSO), responses are often in conflict. To obtain a satisfactory compromise, the preference information of a decision maker (DM) on the tradeoffs among the responses should be incorporated into the problem. In most existing work, the DM expresses a subjective judgment on the responses through a preference parameter before the problem-solving process, after which a single solution is obtained. In this study, we propose a posterior preference articulation approach to MRS...
A Heuristic temporal difference approach with adaptive grid discretization
Fikir, Ozan Bora; Polat, Faruk; Department of Computer Engineering (2016)
Reinforcement learning (RL), as an area of machine learning, tackle with the problem defined in an environment where an autonomous agent ought to take actions to achieve an ultimate goal. In RL problems, the environment is typically formulated as a Markov decision process. However, in real life problems, the environment is not flawless to be formulated as an MDP, and we need to relax fully observability assumption of MDP. The resulting model is partially observable Markov decision process, which is a more r...
A variational approach for the two-dimensional magnetopolaron
Erçelebi, Atila; Saqqa, Bassam H. (IOP Publishing, 1989-12-18)
The problem of a two-dimensional magnetopolaron is investigated on the basis of a variational theory consisting of an adiabatic polaronic wavefunction combined with a perturbative correction by which it is possible to interrelate the strong and weak coupling counterparts of the coupled electron-phonon system. It is seen that the theory conveniently reproduces the desirable asymptotic limits in the different regimes of the problem. Furthermore, it is suggested that a satisfying improvement should be achieved...
A projection based variational multiscale method for a fluid–fluid interaction problem
Ağgül, Mustafa ; Eroğlu, Fatma Güler ; Kaya Merdan, Songül; Labovsky, Alexer E. (Elsevier BV, 2020-06-15)
The proposed method aims to approximate a solution of a fluid–fluid interaction problem in case of low viscosities. The nonlinear interface condition on the joint boundary allows for this problem to be viewed as a simplified version of the atmosphere–ocean coupling. Thus, the proposed method should be viewed as potentially applicable to air–sea coupled flows in turbulent regime. The method consists of two key ingredients. The geometric averaging approach is used for efficient and stable decoupling of the pr...
