Here, a simple discrete version of the dynamics of SIR model is considered within a treatment structure in such a way to control the behaviour of each candidate: population of the susceptible, infected and recovered people, respectively. In this regard, several two-player game models are proposed, where one player follows its own existed policy where as the other tries to track its opponent’s treatment schedule as close as possible. In this regard, different strategies are built for one player to catch the other in a two-player game environment, where one player determines the total number of susceptible or infected people at a given period, in the meantime, the other tries to build its corresponding treatment policy to get closer to its opponent’s counting schedule. The main contribution of this work is to build a better treatment schedule by using a game theoretical point of view to cure the population suffered from an infectious disease. At the end, the work is related to pursuer-evasion discrete games and the idea could be implemented on compartmental models like COVID-19 and transportation problems.

on the analysis and design of a new type of partially compliant mechanism
Tanık, Engin; Söylemez, Eres; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2007)
In this study analysis and design procedures of partially compliant mechanisms using two degree of freedom mechanism model are developed. The flexible segments are modeled as revolute joints with torsional springs. While one freedom is controlled by the input to the mechanism, the motion of the parts are governed both by the kinematics and the force balance. The procedure developed for the analysis of such mechanisms is shown on two different mechanisms: a five link mechanism with crank input and slider out...
On the possibility of wittgensteinian language of ethics
Oktar, Sibel; Turan, Şeref Halil; Department of Philosophy (2008)
In this study, the standpoint that discourse on ethics is impossible is examined. As Ludwig Wittgenstein is the first philosopher who explicitly said that ethics is inexpressible, the main concentration is on Wittgenstein’s conception of ethics. Analytic philosophy’s questions regarding ethics are about the meaning of the expressions of value rather than conduct. It is generally recognized that the distinction between these questions and the emphasis on the definition of value judgements starts with G.E. Mo...
A matheuristic for binary classification of data sets using hyperboxes
Akbulut, Derya; İyigün, Cem; Özdemirel, Nur Evin (null; 2018-07-08)
In this study, an optimization approach is proposed for the binary classification problem. A Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) model formulation is used to construct hyperboxes as classifiers, minimizing the number of misclassified and unclassified samples as well as overlapping of hyperboxes. The hyperboxes are determined by some lower and upper bounds on the feature values, and overlapping of these hyperboxes is allowed to keep a balance between misclassification and overfitting. A matheuristic, namely Iter...
A generative model for multi class object recognition and detection
Ulusoy, İlkay (2006-01-01)
In this study, a generative type probabilistic model is proposed for object recognition. This model is trained by weakly labelled images and performs classification and detection at the same time. When test on highly challenging data sets, the model performs good for both tasks (classification and detection).
Two evolutionary models for reconceptualizing architectural ideas and the architectural design process
Anay, Hakan; Aközer, Emel; Department of Architecture (2008)
This study puts forward two complementary evolutionary models and explores the potential of the proposed models and the related theses by employing two case studies. The theoretical/conceptual framework of the study refers to architectural theory, design research, and evolutionary epistemology. The study mainly involves application of some key ideas from evolutionary epistemology, Popper’s three-world ontology, and the theory of evolution to the field of architecture. The first model is about the nature of ...
