Noise in the presence of coupling among antenna elements

1998-01-01
Noise temperature calculation and minimum noise temperature design of feed structures for large scale antenna arrays is given in Demir et al. (1)-(3). In those studies the portion of internally generated noise power appearing at the antenna element terminals was not calculated because the feed system is assumed to be matched to the antenna elements and therefore reflections do not occur and all the noise power dissipates on or radiates through the antenna elements. However, even in the matched case, some part of the noise power may return back to the output port if there is coupling among antenna elements. In this study, it is assumed that internal noise power at the antenna element terminals is coupled to the neighboring antenna elements and received as noise power input. This consideration has two aspects: the noise power at the output terminal is changed and noise signals at the output terminal are not any more uncorrelated and therefore requires a special treatment.

Model accuracy impact through rescaled observations in hydrological data assimilation studies
Yılmaz, Mustafa Tuğrul; Dongryeol, Ryu (2015-04-12)
Relative magnitudes of signal and noise in soil moisture datasets (e.g. satellite-, model-, station-based) feature significant variability. Optimality of the analysis when assimilating observations into the model depends on the degree that the differences between the signal variances of model and observations are minimized. Rescaling techniques that aim to reduce such differences in general only focus on matching certain statistics of the model and the observations while the impact of their relative accurac...
Temperature-dependent Raman scattering spectra of epsilon-GaSe layered crystal
Hasanlı, Nızamı; Ozkan, H; Kocabas, C (Elsevier BV, 2002-01-01)
The temperature dependencies (15-300 K) of seven Raman-active mode frequencies and linewidths in layered gallium selenide have been measured in the frequency range from 10 to 320 cm(-1). We observed softening and broadening of the optical phonon lines with increasing temperature. Comparison between the experimental data and theories of the shift and broadening of the intralayer phonon lines during heating of the crystal showed that the experimental dependencies can be explained by the contributions from the...
CALCULATION OF THE RAMAN FREQUENCIES AT LOW PRESSURES AND TEMPERATURES (sigma-PHASE) SOLID NITROGEN
Yurtseven, Hasan Hamit (World Scientific Pub Co Pte Lt, 2013-09-20)
We calculate the Raman frequencies of the E-g mode and, the low and high frequency T-g mode as a function of temperature at a constant pressure of 2.85 kbar in the alpha-phase of solid nitrogen. The Raman frequencies of those lattice modes are calculated using the volume data from the literature at various temperatures (2.85 kbar) for the alpha-phase of solid N-2 through the mode Gruneisen parameter. Our predicted Raman frequencies can be compared with the experimental data and by this method the Raman freq...
Prediction of ducted diaphragm noise using a stochastic approach with adapted temporal filters
Karban, Ugur; Schram, Christophe; Sovardi, Carlo; Polifke, Wolfgang (SAGE Publications, 2019-01-01)
The noise production by ducted single- and double-diaphragm configurations is simulated using a stochastic noise generation and radiation numerical method. The importance of modeling correctly the anisotropy and temporal de-correlation is discussed, based on numerical results obtained by large eddy simulation. A new temporal filter is proposed, designed to provide the targeted spectral decay of energy in an Eulerian reference frame. An anisotropy correction is implemented using a non-linear model. The acous...
Numerical prediction of aft radiation of turbofan tones through exhaust jets
Özyörük, Yusuf (2009-08-07)
This paper describes a numerical methodology for calculating tonal noise propagation and radiation through turbomachinery exhaust ducts, including non-uniform background jet flows. The numerical method is based on solution of the linearized Euler equations directly in the frequency domain, employing a direct, sparse matrix solver in parallel. Acoustic sources are introduced into the computational domain via the perfectly matched layer equations. Various test cases including propagation through infinite duct...
