Two-dimensional hybrid Monte Carlo-fluid modelling of dc glow discharges: Comparison with fluid models, reliability, and accuracy
EYLENCEOGLU, E.; Rafatov, İsmail; KUDRYAVTSEV, A. A. (2015-01-01)
Two-dimensional hybrid Monte Carlo-fluid numerical code is developed and applied to model the dc glow discharge. The model is based on the separation of electrons into two parts: the low energetic (slow) and high energetic (fast) electron groups. Ions and slow electrons are described within the fluid model using the drift-diffusion approximation for particle fluxes. Fast electrons, represented by suitable number of super particles emitted from the cathode, are responsible for ionization processes in the dis...
Two-dimensional unsteady flow modeling of flood inundation in a leveed basin
Carr, K.J.; Tu, T.; Ercan, Ali; Kavvas, M.L.; Nosacka, J. (2015-01-01)
© 2015 ASCE.The Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB) is a 14.5 square-kilometer sediment retention basin designed to trap sediment and reduce sediment loads into the Yolo Bypass. The basin, and the 13-kilometer stretch of leveed creek from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) Cache Creek at Yolo gauge (11452500) to the upstream boundary of the basin, were engineered to safely conduct flows up to 850 cubic meters per second with approximately 1-meter of freeboard. The sole purpose of the basin is to retai...

Two-dimensional numerical analysis of tunnel collapse driven in poor ground conditions
Türkoğlu, Melih; Bakır, Bahadır Sadık; Department of Civil Engineering (2013)
Insufficient information on the host medium can cause serious problems, even collapse, during construction in a tunnel. This study focuses on understanding the reasons behind the collapse of the Tunnel BT24 to be opened within the framework of Ankara-İstanbul High Speed Railway Project. The tunnel is located near Bozüyük in the Bilecik Province. The collapsed section of the tunnel was driven into a highly weathered, weak to medium rock mass. Unanticipated geological/geotechnical circumstances caused excessi...
Two-sided assembly line balancing models and heuristics
Arıkan, Uğur; Kırca, Ömer; Department of Industrial Engineering (2009)
This study is focused on two-sided assembly line balancing problems of type-I and type-II. This problem is encountered in production environments where a two-sided assembly line is used to produce physically large products. For type-I problems, there is a specified production target for a fixed time interval and the objective is to reach this production capacity with the minimum assembly line length used. On the other hand, type-II problem focuses on reaching the maximum production level using a fixed assem...
