Global electricity generation today relies heavily on fossil fuels. Therefore, the need to create innovative and reliable technologies that can consistently generate clean and renewable electricity is of great importance. Generating electricity from wave energy has great potential although, the methods used to convert wave energy has limited applications in real life. Turkey surrounded by different wave conditions is a candidate for such applications. In the literature, there are various studies in which resource evaluation for wave energy is conducted for Turkey Seas. However, studies on WEC type selection, design performance as well as the applicability of such device is very limited. Thus, in this study, overtopping type WEC optimizations were performed for the breakwaters of the four pilot sites (mainly fisheries) on the Black Sea Coast of Turkey. In order to optimize the WECs in the breakwaters, wave analyzes were performed for selected sites along the Black Sea coast. Then, the dimensions that the overtopping type WECs would be most efficient were determined by the developed optimization algorithm. The energy that can be produced by the optimized WECs was determined and significant factors were discussed affecting the energy production and WEC optimization processes for the selected sites.

Fossil fuels cover most of the energy demand in the world, and this creates significant social, economic and environmental problems. Many countries have taken measures to increase the share of renewable energy sources (RES), especially in electricity generation, and the review of literature shows that the success of a country in RES diffusion depends on a comprehensive renewable energy policy which combines political commitment with stable and long-term support measures that stimulate technological innovati...

It is well-known that even though fossil fuels are the main energy resource in Turkey, use of sustainable energy resources such as wind and solar energy has been increasing in the past years and expected to continue on this trend in the next years to come. The suitable land for land-based wind turbines and photovoltaic (PV) systems could also be convenient for various other purposes, such as agriculture. This study aims to investigate the suitable sites for a combined floating wind and solar systems in the ...

Population of the world is growing with increasing rate and it seems that existing fossil fuel energy sources will not be able to meet energy demand in the near future. Energy is not only crucial for civil sector but also it is one of the most important assets in defense sector. Energy for military operations is mostly provided from fossil fuel as it is the case in other sectors; however, fossil fuels have hazardous effects to the environment and cause global environment concerns. These drawbacks of fossil ...

© 2022 Elsevier LtdDue to the negative effects of fossil fuels on the environment and health, energy supply is shifting towards renewables. The integration of renewable energy systems is challenging due to the intermittent nature of renewables, however this can be mitigated through storage. Uncertainty in electricity prices in spot markets further complicates the operation of these systems. Pumped storage hydropower is currently the most viable form of large-scale energy storage, and operation of renewable ...

Hydropower is a significant renewable energy type with a considerable share in energy generation worldwide. As with the other common means of energy generation, hydropower is critical for the reliability and quality of electricity supply. Maintaining the reliability and quality of supply enables meeting the electricity demand of the loads adequately and efficient use of the energy resources, in addition to decreasing the related financial and environmental losses. In this paper, we target at the problem of ...
