Flow characterization study and fire experiments in a reduced scaled tunnel
Abuaisheh, Majd Basil Abdel Muhsen; Yozgatlıgil, Ahmet; Pınarcıoğlu, Mehmet Melih; Department of Mechanical Engineering (2019)
This work is an experimental study on the subject of tunnel fires, which is conducted on a ventilated 1/13 scaled tunnel model in the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering of Middle East Technical University. In order to perform the experiments, in the first stage, the tunnel model was completely renovated, and its overall condition was improved to obtain better means of control and accuracy on the experimental measurements. In the second stage of the thesis, a flow characterizati...
Seismic testing of a scaled roller-compacted-concrete gravity dam
Gharibdoust, Ali; Binici, Barış; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
Within the last half-century, seismic response analysis of concrete gravity dams has been extensively studied. Studies reveal that two types of failure modes prevail in the form of dam body cracking or base slide. The literature lacks the conditions that clearly differentiate the two failure types. In this context a state of the art single degree of freedom pseudo-dynamic testing was developed to assess the gravity dam response on smooth foundation interface. Three different hazard levels of earthquake name...

Aerodynamic investigation of a model scale helicopter rotor in ground effect
Şahbaz, Mehmet; Kurtuluş, Dilek Funda; Sezer Uzol, Nilay; Department of Aerospace Engineering (2017)
In this thesis, ground effect issue which is a vital topic for helicopter industry is investigated with model scale. For this purpose, a test setup with model helicopter rotor is established. With setup, ground effect is investigated with inclined ground and ground without inclination. Thrust and torque values are obtained for different rotation speeds with constant collective pitch. Comparison with literature is done and reliability of the test setup is proven. Inclined Ground Effect and Ground Effect with ...
Göreve Uyumlu Bir İnsansız Hava Aracı Kanadının Yapısal Modellenmesi ve Deneysel Doğrulanması
Şahin, Melin; Evren, Sakarya; Erdoğan Tolga, İnsuyu; Güçlü, Seber; Özgen, Serkan; Yaman, Yavuz (2010-06-23)
This study presents the structural design and analysis aspects of an unmanned aerial vehicle wing having mission adaptive characteristics. After detailing the structural design and analysis studies by using MSC®/PATRAN and MSC®/NASTRAN package programs; the study also presents some experimental studies conducted for the verification of the theoretical modelling and the relevant results.
