Influence of nanoparticle shape on colloidal plasmonic interface properties
Sarıgül, Elif; Bek, Alpan; Department of Physics (2014)
Nanoparticles bearing free charges, interact very strongly with incoming electromagnetic radiation at certain frequencies called the plasmon resonance frequencies, depending on the size, shape and material properties of the particle and the medium. In order to enhance the light scattering by a two dimensional network of such plasmonic nanoparticles several strategies can be followed. In this thesis, it was pursued the fabrication and characterization of the nanoparticle decorated surfaces by colloidal solut...
Influence of slag fineness on the strength and heat evolution of multiple-clinker blended cements
Erdoğan, Sinan Turhan (2017-11-30)
Three clinkers and a blast furnace slag, ground separately, were combined to produce 27 cements. Each cement consisted of 35% fine (similar to 6000 cm(2)/g), 25% intermediate (similar to 4000 cm(2)/g), and 40% coarse (similar to 2500 cm(2)/g) particles. Slag made up the fine or intermediate particles in the blended cements, clinkers making up the remainder. Compressive strength was measured up to 28 d on mortars and heat evolution was investigated up to 48 h using isothermal calorimetry. Portland cements wi...
Influence of structural length-scale variations on azimuth-resolved light scattering patterns of inhomogeneous cell models
Arifler, Dizem; Guillaud, Martial (2015-06-24)
Optical scattering provides an intrinsic contrast mechanism for the diagnosis of early precancerous changes in tissues. There have been a multitude of numerical studies targeted at delineating the relationship between cancer-related alterations in morphology and internal structure of cells and the resulting changes in their optical scattering properties. Despite these efforts, we still need to further our understanding of inherent scattering signatures that can be linked to precancer progression. As such, c...
Influence of mineral admixture type and amount on rheological properties of mortars
Idrees, Maria; Tokyay, Mustafa; Department of Civil Engineering (2016)
Fly ash (FA), silica fume (SF) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (BFS) are used in different amounts to partially replace portland cement (PC) on mass basis to prepare mortars mixtures with different water-binder ratios. In all mixtures, a constant amount of a polycarboxylate based high range water reducing admixture was used. The rheological measurements of fresh mortars were taken right after mixing and at 10 and 20 minutes after mixing by using a two-probe eBT2 rheometer. The effect of each minera...
Influence of fat content and emulsifier type on the rheological properties of cake batter
Sakiyan, O; Şümnü, Servet Gülüm; Şahin, Serpil; Bayram, Göknur (2004-11-01)
The effects of fat content and emulsifier type on the rheological properties of cake batter have been investigated by using a parallel-plate rheometer. The apparent viscosity of cake batter with five different fat concentrations (0, 12.5, 25, 37.5, and 50%) and two types of emulsifier, namely Purawave and Lecigran, was studied as a function of the shear rate. In addition, the time dependency of different cake formulations was investigated. It was found that cake batter with different fat concentrations and ...
