Role of Saharan dust on phytoplankton dynamics in the northeastern Mediterranean
Eker-Develi, Elif; Kıdeyş, Ahmet Erkan; TUĞRUL, SÜLEYMAN (2006-01-01)
Effects of atmospheric deposition and other environmental factors on phytoplankton dynamics were evaluated from an open (having offshore characteristics) and a coastal station in the northeastern Mediterranean between December 2000 and December 2001. Data on phytoplankton, chlorophyll a, nutrients, temperature and salinity were obtained at bi-weekly or more intense intervals during 1 yr, whilst transport of Saharan dust towards the sampling region was monitored daily by SeaWiFS (sea-viewing wide field-of-vi...
Role of nitrogen in submerged plant development in Mediterranean climatic zone - a mesocosm experiment
Özkan, Korhan; Beklioğlu, Meryem; Department of Biology (2008)
The effects of increasing nitrogen and phosphorus loading on submerged macrophyte development was tested in a mesocosm experiment for three months. Experiment consisted of three NO3-N loadings with factorial of two PO4-P loadings in a fourfold replicated design. Twenty four enclosures placed at one meter depth were isolated from the lake but kept open to sediment and atmosphere. Each enclosure stocked with ten Myriophyllum spicatum shoots with underyearling fish to reduce zooplankton grazers. Biweekly sampl...

ROLE OF EXERCISE STAGES IN SELF-REPORTED HEALTH-PROMOTING BEHAVIORS OF A GROUP OF TURKISH ADOLESCENTS AT TRANSITION TO UNIVERSITY
İnce, Mustafa Levent (SAGE Publications, 2009-04-01)
The purpose of this Study was to examine the self-perceived health-promoting behaviors with respect to exercise stages of Turkish adolescents at transition from high school to university. Participant, were 358 adolescents (192 boys, 166 girls) who were accepted to a research university for undergraduate education. The Adolescent Health Promotion Scale was used to examine Nutrition, Health Responsibility, Life Appreciation, Social Support, Exercise and Stress Management behaviors. Physical Activity Stages of...
