A novel O3-NaMn0.42Fe0.42Ni0.17O2 cathode material for sodium-ion batteries is synthesized, for the first time, by a co-precipitation method followed by solid-state reaction. The effect of Ni2+, Cu2+ and Ca2+ substitution for Mn4+ and Fe3+ on the structural stability, rate capability and cycling performance of the cathode material are examined. Chemical titration results and powder X-ray diffraction patterns indicate that the substitution of Ni2+, Cu2+ and Ca2+ for Fe3+ and Mn4+ can inhibit the reaction of Na+ ions in the structure of O3-NaMn0.33Fe0.33Ni0.21Cu0.08Ca0.04O2 with air. The Ni2+, Cu2+ and Ca2+-substituted O3-NaMn0.33Fe0.33Ni0.21Cu0.08Ca0.04O2 cathode material show a higher capacity and better cycling stability than that of O3-NaMn0.42Fe0.42Ni0.17O2, indicating that a small amount of Ni2+, Cu2+ and Ca2+ substitution can improve the structure/air stability and the electrochemical performance. When O3-NaMn0.33Fe0.33Ni0.21Cu0.08Ca0.04O2 cathode material is combined with the hard carbon anode, a full cell gives 220 Wh kg(-1) energy density and 100% capacity retention after 56 charge/discharge cycles at 0.5C. The O3-NaMn0.33Fe0.33Ni0.21Cu0.08Ca0.04O2 can be thought of as a potential cathode active material to encourage progress toward sodium-ion battery commercialization due to the high industrial applicability of the synthesis process and good electrochemical performance. Prime Novelty Statement A novel O3-NaMn0.42Fe0.42Ni0.17O2 cathode material for sod um on batter es is synthesized for the first time by a co-precipitation method with subsequent solid-state reaction. The substitution of Ni2+, Cu2+ and Ca2+ for Fe3+ and Mn4+ improves the air stability and electrochemical performance of O3-NaMn0.33Fe0.33Ni0.21Cu0.08Ca0.04O2 cathode material. When O3-NaMn0.33Fe0.33Ni0.21Cu0.08Ca0.04O2 cathode material couples with the hard carbon anode, a full cell gives an energy density of 220 Wh kg(-1) and the capacity retention of 100% after 56 charge/discharge cycles.

A Novel Method for Fabricating MEMS Three-Axis Accelerometers using Low Temperature Au-Sn Eutectic Bonding
Tez, Serdar; Torunbalci, Mustafa Mert; Akın, Tayfun (2016-11-03)
This paper presents a novel method for the fabrication of three-axis capacitive MEMS accelerometers by using low-temperature Au-Sn eutectic bonding that is applied to form a glass-silicon-glass multi-stack. The proposed method provides the implementation of individual in-plane and out-of-plane accelerometer elements in the same die using a glass-silicon-glass multi-stack structure formed at temperatures as low as 300 degrees C while still ensuring the advantages of the previous approaches such as the voltag...
A NOVEL FABRICATION AND WAFER LEVEL HERMETIC SEALING METHOD FOR SOI-MEMS DEVICES USING SOI CAP WAFERS
Torunbalci, Mustafa Mert; Alper, Said Emre; Akın, Tayfun (2015-01-22)
This paper presents a novel and inherently simple all-silicon fabrication and hermetic packaging method developed for SOI-MEMS devices, enabling lead transfer using vertical feedthroughs formed on an SOI cap wafer. The processes of the SOI cap wafer and the SOI-MEMS wafer require a total of five inherently-simple mask steps, providing a combined process and packaging yield as high as 95%. The hermetic encapsulation is achieved by Au-Si eutectic bonding at 400 degrees C. The package pressure is measured as 1...
A CMOS COMPATIBLE METAL-POLYMER MICROCHANNEL HEAT SINK FOR MONOLITHIC CHIP COOLING APPLICATIONS
Koyuncuoglu, Aziz; Okutucu Özyurt, Hanife Tuba; Külah, Haluk (2010-08-13)
A novel complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) compatible microchannel heat sink is designed and fabricated for monolithic liquid cooling of electronic circuits. The microchannels are fabricated with full metal walls between adjacent channels with a polymer top layer for easy sealing and optical visibility of the channels. The use of polymer also provides flexibility in adjusting the width of the channels allowing better management of the pressure drop. The proposed microchannel heat sink requires n...
A novel conducting polymer based on terthienyl system bearing strong electron-withdrawing substituents and its electrochromic device application
Asil Alptekin, Demet; Algı, Fatih; Önal, Ahmet Muhtar (Elsevier BV, 2008-7)
A novel conducting polymer bearing strong electron-withdrawing substituents (EWS) directly attached to the 3,4-positions of the thiophene ring was synthesized by electrochemical polymerization of diethyl 2,5-di(thiophen-2-yl)thiophene-3,4-dicarboxylate (SSS-Diester). The polymer (PSSS-Diester) was characterized by cyclic voltammetry, FT-IR and UV-vis spectroscopy. The polymer has a reversible redox process and demonstrates a stable electrochromic behavior: reddish orange in the neutral state, brown in the i...
Development and characterization of high power density cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries
Doğu, Şafak; Aydınol, Mehmet Kadri; Evis, Zafer; Department of Micro and Nanotechnology (2015)
In this thesis, facile and cost efficient aqua based synthesis method is developed to synthesize power dense and fast rechargeable LiFePO4 cathode materials. In order to obtain nano sized crystal morphology, nucleation controlled techniques were studied on precursor synthesis. These techniques are freeze (cryogenic) drying with co-precipitation and ultrasound assisted sub-sequential precipitation with vacuum drying at low temperatures (<350 K). In co-precipitation with freeze drying synthesis, star-like pla...
