After completing her primary education at Antalya Dumlupınar Primary School and her secondary and high school education at TED Ankara College, Engin Karaesmen graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1965. After receiving her master's degree in 1966, she began working as a research assistant and teaching courses in her department. She completed her doctoral studies in Engineering Sciences at METU, conducted research in the field of applied mechanics within the same department, and later continued her academic career as a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering. Between 1976 and 1982, she also held administrative positions such as Dean of Student Affairs and Chair of the Department of Engineering Sciences. After retiring from METU in 2006, she continued teaching. Engin Karaesmen, whose spouse was also a faculty member at METU, has three children and four grandchildren, all of whom are graduates of METU.
