Tamer Şahinbaş

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şahinbaş was born in 1940 in Istanbul. He studied in Gazi Primary School in Eskişehir and completed his secondary and high school education as a boarding student in Tarsus American College. In 1958, he passed the entrance exam for the Department of Civil Engineering at METU. Şahinbaş is a second generation student in Civil Engineering. For this reason, he took many courses with the first semester students. Also, Şahinbaş took elective courses from other departments. After completing his undergraduate and master's degree at METU, Şahinbaş worked in Denmark for design and construction of the stress-strain reinforced concrete road bridges. After completing his military service between 1967-69, he worked as transportation specialist in State Planning Organization for two years. In 972, he joined Koç Group. He worked as a project-engineer and planning manager at Aygaz, as a Planning Coordinator at Koç Holding and as a General Manager at Koza Construction respectively. In 1990, he was appointed as director of Koç University project. He served for two years as the Founding Rector. He retired in 2002. He also served as a consultant engineer. He assumed the chairmanship of the executive board of the Health and Education Foundation and chairmanship of the board of trustees. As of 2018, he is a consultant of Vehbi Koç Foundation and a member of Koç University Board of Trustees.
