Ahmet Acar

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Acar received his BS degree from METU, and his MS and Ph.D. degrees from University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia). Prof. Acar worked as a full-time faculty member at METU Business Administration Department between 1980 and 2016. His areas of interest are strategic planning-management and quantitative decision models. At METU, he has served as Chair of Business Administration Department (1987-1994), Dean of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences (1994-2000), Vice President of the University (2000-2008), Founding Rector of METU Northern Cyprus Campus (2001-2006), and Rector of the University (2008-2016). He has also worked as a researcher at University of Pennsylvania, faculty member at Hacettepe University, and visiting faculty member at Yarmouk University (Jordan). He has served as chair/member of various inter-university organizations, and of board of directors of several education-research institutions, and NGOs. Prof. Acar has been awarded “Honoris causa/Doctor of Humane Letters” by Binghamton University (New York), “Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity (Ordine della Stella della Soliderieta Italiana)” by President of Republic of Italy, and “Order of Merit for International Collaboration” by Governership of Hyogo Prefecture (Japan). In Turkey, he received “Honorary Award (Onur Ödülü)” from Toplumsal Etik Derneği (Social Ethics Association) (Ankara), and “Adnan Kahveci Statesmanship Award (Devlet Adamı Ödülü)” from Kabataşlılar Derneği (Alumni Association of Kabataş Highschool) (İstanbul).
