Effects of nanoadditives and different conventional flame redardants on the flammability of polystyrene
Sipahioğlu, Bengü Melike; Kaynak, Cevdet; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2012)
In this thesis, there were four purposes. The first one was to investigate effects of nanoclays (NC) on the flammability behavior of polystyrene (PS). The second purpose was to investigate contribution of nanoclays to the flame retardancy performance of conventional phosphorus based flame retardant; triphenyl phosphate (TPP) and its synergist melamine cyanurate (MCA). For the third purpose contribution of nanoclays to the flame retardancy performance of another conventional halogenated flame retardant; brom...
Effects of frame aspect ratio on the seismic performance improvement of pc panel strengthening technique
Okuyucu, Dilek; Ergun, Mehmet Ufuk; Department of Civil Engineering (2011)
PC panel strengthening technique was developed in M.E.T.U. Structural Mechanics Laboratory in order to respond the need of practical and efficient pre-quake seismic strengthening procedures applicable to RC framed structures. The idea behind the method is simply to convert the non-structural infills into load bearing structural elements by gluing PC panels over the existing infill wall surface. The remarkable advantages of the procedure is not only the considerable amount of seismic performance improvement ...
Effect of doping on the ground-state spin of stacked organometallic ferromagnets
Cheranovskii, VO; Ezerskaya, EV; Zhikol, OA; Kinal, A; Pamuk, HO (1999-07-05)
The effective Hamiltonians that describe the low-lying energy states of some stacked organometallic ferromagnets with dopants have been derived. It is shown that the lattice stack with N unit cells and p conduction electrons has the ground-state spin S-0 = (N + p)/2 at p < N and S-0 less than or equal to (3N - p)/2 at N less than or equal to p < 2N. This means that the ferromagnetic ground state of metallocene-based donor-acceptor stack is unstable to the donor doping and is stable to the acceptor doping. (...
Effects of slip at the wall on the viscosity of suspensions with a polymeric matrix
Soltani, F; Yılmazer, Ülkü (1999-12-01)
The flow behavior of concentrated suspensions consisting of a Newtonian matrix (hydroxyl-terminated-polybutadiene, HTPB) mixed with two different sizes of aluminum powder (30% and above by volume) and two different sizes of glass beads (50% and above by volume) was investigated. The effects of the solid content, particle size, type of solid particle material, and the temperature on the shear stress and viscosity of the composite systems were studied. Slip at the wall was an important factor in suspensions w...
Effects of nanoparticles on thermal characteristics of polyamide-6, polylactic acid and polystyrene involving various flame retardants
Kaya, Hatice; Hacaloğlu, Jale; Kaynak, Cevdet; Department of Polymer Science and Technology (2013)
In this work, the effects of addition of nanoparticles halloysite, (HNT), organically modified montmorillonites (MMT10A, MMT25A and MMT30B) and SiO2 on thermal degradation characteristics of polyamide 6 (PA6), polylactide (PLA) and polystyrenes (PS and HIPS) involving flame retardants are investigated. The composites of PA6 and PLA involve phosphorus containing flame retardant, aluminium diethylphosphinate (AlPi). Composites HIPS involve mineral flame retardant, aluminium hydroxide and those of PS involve h...
