Heat treatment of iron ore agglomerates with microwave energy
Çırpar, Çiğdem; Arol, Ali İhsan; Department of Mining Engineering (2005)
Pelletizing is a size enlargement technique employed to process fine-grained iron-bearing concentrates and powder ores. Mechanical strength of fired pellets is important for handling. When the pellets undergo metallurgical processing, their mechanical strength is a measure of their resistance to degradation by breakage due to impacts and abrasion to which they are exposed in the upper part of the blast furnace. In this study, heat treatment of iron ore agglomerates with microwave energy is investigated. Fir...
Heat-damage assessment of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer composites by diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy
Dara, IH; Ankara, A; Akovali, G; Suzer, S (2005-05-15)
Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy was used to assess the effects of heat damage on carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer composites. Moisture-saturated graphite-epoxy laminates with a quasi-isotropic lay-up were heat-damaged above their upper service temperatures. The loss of matrix-dominated mechanical properties due to heat exposure was investigated in the laboratory under environmental testing conditions with mechanical tests, ultrasonic C-scanning, and DRIFT spectroscopy. The...

Heat Transfer for the Film Cooled Vane of a 1 1 2 Stage High Pressure Transonic Turbine Part I Experimental Configuration and Data Review With Inlet Temperature Profile Effects
Kahveci, Harika Senem; MATHISON, RANDALL; DUNN, MICHAEL (2011-01-01)
This paper investigates the vane airfoil and inner endwall heat transfer for a full-scale turbine stage operating at design corrected conditions under the influence of different vane inlet temperature profiles and vane cooling flow rates. The turbine stage is a modern 3-D design consisting of a cooled high-pressure vane, an un-cooled high-pressure rotor, and a low-pressure vane. Inlet temperature profiles (uniform, radial and hot streaks) are created by a passive heat exchanger and can be made circumferenti...
