5 Preface These proceedings contain the abstracts presented at the 1st International Workshop on Plasticity, Damage and Fracture of Engineering Materials, co-organized by the TOBB University of Economics and Technology and the Middle East Technical University (METU), on 22-23 August 2019 in Ankara, Turkey. The aim of the workshop is to discuss recent progress in the fields of plasticity, damage, and fracture mechanics. Both computational and experimental studies are within the scope of the workshop, which focuses on a better understanding of how the material microstructure, loading and environmental conditions affect deformation, degradation and failure of engineering materials. The workshop intends to provide an open platform for discussion on new directions in prediction and prevention of failure of engineering materials. The organizers wish to thank all the invited lectures and the contributors for their effort in preparing their presentations, posters and abstracts in these proceedings. Selected full papers will be published in the Procedia Structural Integrity. The support from ESIS (European Structural Integrity Society), TOBB University and METU is gratefully acknowledged. Ankara, 22 August, 2019.
