Güzin Erlat (Gülsoy), born in Eskişehir on April 1, 1948, after graduating from Eskişehir Atatürk High School, entered the Department of Economics and Statistics, then known as METU, and graduated in 1970. He completed his master's degree in Statistics at Gazi University, Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences in 1971, and his master's degree in Economics at METU Department of Economics and Statistics in 1975. He received his doctorate degree from AÜ Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Economics in 1978, with his thesis titled "Foreign Trade Effects of Economic Mergers: Ex-Ante Measurement of Trade Creation and Trade Diversion". After working as an Assistant Professor at Gazi University between 1978 and 1987, Güzin Erlat served as an Associate Professor at METU Department of Economics between 1988 and 1999, and as a Professor from 1999 until her retirement in 2014. During this period, he was a visiting professor at the University of California, San Diego between 1983-1984, and at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill between 1993-1994. In the administrative field, he served as Deputy Dean at METU Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences between 2003 and 2007. Prof. has many publications in domestic and foreign journals on Foreign Trade and International Economics. Dr. Güzin Erlat also conducted eight master's and one doctoral theses on the same subjects. In addition to his publications, he was elected to the editorial group of the 'Russian and East European Finance and Trade' magazine between 1999-2001, served as the assistant editor of the 'Emerging Markets Finance and Trade' magazine between 2001-2007, and served as the director of the 'Middle East Economic Association' from 2003 until his retirement. He was a member of the board. Prof. Dr. Güzin Erlat was deemed worthy of the educator of the year award given by METU Parlar Foundation in 1998. In 2020, he received the Academic Service plaque awarded by the Turkish Economic Council. Güzin Erlat, retired faculty member of METU Department of Economics, Prof. Dr. Haluk Erlat's wife and Dr. She is the mother of Ahmet Gün Erlat. He died on May 17, 2023.
