Tosun Terzioğlu

Born in Istanbul in 1942, Tosun Terzioğlu graduated from Robert College in 1961 and received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Newcastle-upon-Tyne University in England in 1965; and his doctorate in the same field from Frankfurt University in 1968. Terzioğlu, who taught at Michigan, Wuppertal and METU, served as the Head of the METU Mathematics Department in 1974-1975 and 1989-1991; and as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the same university in 1977-1982. Tosun Terzioğlu served as a member of the TÜBİTAK Fundamental Sciences Research Group between 1977-1981, a member of the Interuniversity Board between 1979-1981, a member of the ODTÜ Senate between 1990-1991, and as the President of TÜBİTAK between 1992-1997. During the same period, Tosun Terzioğlu, who was a member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Technology Development Foundation, KOSGEB Executive Board and the NATO Science Committee Turkey Representative between 1993-1997, assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Scientific and Technical Research Foundation-BİTAV between 1996-1997 and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the TÜBİTAK Marmara Research Center between 1997-2000. Prof. Dr. Terzioğlu served as the Rector of Sabancı University between July 1997-July 2009. He was a board member of the Turkish Third Sector Foundation (TÜSEV) and the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV), and the Mother Child Education Foundation (AÇEV). He is also a member of the Editorial and Editorial Boards, and the author of over 50 scientific articles and four books in the field of Mathematics. Tosun Terzioğlu is the recipient of the TÜBİTAK Incentive Award in 1974 and the TÜBİTAK Science Award in 1986.
