Effect of dietary selenium and vitamin E on the biomechanical properties of rabbit bones
Turan, B; Balcik, C; Akkas, N (Springer Science and Business Media LLC, 1997-09-01)
It is generally agreed that combined deficiency of selenium and vitamin E leads to several abnormalities including Kashin-Beck disease which is an endemic and chronic degenerative osteoarthrosis. The abnormalities can be reversed by the administration of various forms of selenium and vitamin E.
Effect of salinity on antioxidant responses of chickpea seedlings
Eyidogan, Fuesun; Oez, Mehmet Tufan (2007-10-01)
The changes in the activity of antioxidant enzymes, like superoxide dismutase, ascorbate peroxidase, catalase and glutathione reductase, and growth parameters such as length, fresh and dry weight, proline and H2O2 contents, chlorophyll fluorescence (Fv/Fm), quantum yield of PSII and the rate of lipid peroxidation in terms of malondialdehyde in leaf and root tissues of a chickpea cultivar (Cicer arietinum L. cv. Gokc,e)under salt treatment were investigated. Plants were subjected to 0.1, 0.2 and 0.5 M NaCl t...

Effect of initial COD concentration, nutrient addition, temperature and microbial acclimation on anaerobic treatability of broiler and cattle manure
Gungor-Demirci, G; Demirer, Göksel Niyazi (2004-06-01)
In this study, anaerobic treatability and biogas generation potential of broiler and cattle manure were investigated. For this purpose, seven sets of anaerobic batch reactor experiments were performed using broiler and cattle manure and their mixtures in five different ratios (100% broiler; 75% broiler, 25% cattle; 50% broiler, 50% cattle; 25% broiler, 75% cattle; 100% cattle). These manure mixtures had two different initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) (12,000 and 53,500 mg/l) concentrations. The effects o...
EFFECT OF THE LACTOPEROXIDASE SYSTEM ON THE ACTIVITY OF STARTER CULTURES FOR YOGURT PRODUCTION
Basaga, H.; Dik, Tunay (VOLKSWIRTSCHAFTLICHER VERLAG, 1994)
The LP system in raw milk was activated by the addition of equimolar concentrations (0.25 mM) of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and thiocyanate (SCN) as KSCN and utilizing the inherent milk lactoperoxidase (LP). H2O2 and SCN- concentrations were determined during the experiments by using spectrophotometric methods and found to decrease to 1.5 mug/ml and 0.4 mug/ml respectively in 5 h. A relatively small amount of H2O2 was produced in the untreated milk which then was found to decrease. The activated sample, at th...
