Turhan Feyzioğlu

Prof. Dr. Turhan Feyzioğlu served as the Rector of Middle East Technical University (METU) between August 17, 1960, and February 8, 1961. Feyzioğlu completed his primary education in Kayseri and his secondary education at Galatasaray High School. He graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law, earned his doctorate in constitutional law in the United Kingdom, and became Turkey’s youngest professor in 1955. In 1956, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences at Ankara University. In 1957, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Sivas. And after May 27, 1960, he was appointed as the Rector of Middle East Technical University. He was a member of the Constituent Assembly, representing universities (January 6, 1961 – October 15, 1961), and chaired the Constitutional Commission. In the 1961 elections, he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Kayseri and served as the Minister of National Education in the second Gürsel Cabinet. He also held the positions of State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in Turkey’s first coalition government. In 1975, he served as both State Minister and Deputy Prime Minister in the first Nationalist Front Government led by Süleyman Demirel and later in the Ecevit Government formed in 1978. Feyzioğlu retired from active politics in 1981. He passed away at the age of 66 due to a heart attack.
