Determination of chlorophyll-a distribution in Lake Eymir using regression and artificial neural network models with hybrid inputs
Yüzügüllü, Onur; Aksoy, Ayşegül; Department of Environmental Engineering (2011)
Chlorophyll-a is a parameter which can be used to understand the trophic state of water bodies. Therefore, monitoring of this parameter is required. Yet, distribution of chlorophyll-a in water bodies is not homogeneous and exhibits both spatial and temporal variations. Therefore, frequent sampling and high sample sizes are needed for the determination of chlorophyll-a quantities. This would in return increase the sampling costs and labor requirement, especially if the topography makes the location hard to r...

Determination of Secchi disc depths in Lake Eymir using remotely sensed data
Yüzügüllü, Onur; Aksoy, Ayşegül (null; 2010-06-05)
In this study Secchi disk depths (SDD) are determined in an eutrophic Eymir Lake in Ankara using the multi-spectral image obtained from the Quickbird satellite. For this purpose, empirical models given in literature and artificial neural networks (ANN) are used. SDDs at 17 sampling points in Eymir Lake are measured via field studies. In the satellite image, pixel values at the sampling points are determined using ERDAS Imagine. Results indicate very low correlations between the SDD values calculated using t...
Determination of potential groundwater discharge zones into a Salt Lake using remote sensing techniques and in situ measurements
Kılıç, Ecenur; Yılmaz, Koray Kamil; Süzen, Mehmet Lütfi (2015-04-17)
Groundwater and surface water are integral components of the hydrologic system with strong feedback mechanisms and hence should be treated as a single resource. Existence of groundwater discharge into lakes is a very significant factor that affects both the water quantity of the lake as well as its ecological and biological diversity. The degree of interaction is more significant for shallow lakes because of their increased vulnerability due to limited volume and rapid changes in the extent and duration of ...
Determination of weak transmission links by cluster analysis
Ertuğrul, Hamza Oğuz; Özay, Nevzat; Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2009)
Due to faults and switching, transmission lines encounter power oscillations referred as power swings. Although in most cases they do not lead to an eventual instability, severe changes in power flows on the lines may cause the operation of impedance relays incorrectly, leading to cascaded tripping of other lines. Out-of-Step tripping function is employed in modern distance relays to distinguish such an unstable swing but setting the parameters and deciding lines to be tripped require detailed dynamic power...
