We consider the NP-hard problem of assembly line balancing with station paralleling. We assume an arbitrary number of parallel workstations can be assigned to each stage. Every task requires a specified tooling/equipment, and this tooling/equipment should be available in all parallel workstations of the stage to which the task is assigned. Our objective is to find an assignment of tasks to stages so as to minimize sum of station opening and tooling/equipment costs. We propose two branch and bound algorithms...

Cable axial load measurement device and buckling sensor development
Usalan, Emine Ceren; Türer, Ahmet; Department of Civil Engineering (2015)
Axial compression or tension carrying members may need to be monitored for their structural behaviors and/or damage detection. In this thesis, two different types of practical and cost efficient monitoring devices are proposed: The column buckling sensor and the cable tension measuring device. The columns of steel structures are prone to buckling due to their slender nature. The buckling sensor is developed by using strain gauges installed in half Wheatstone bridge and measures the strain level of the most ...

Active clamped ZVS forward converter with soft-switched synchronous rectifier for maximum efficiency operation
Acik, A; Cadirci, I (1998-05-22)
An active-clamped, zero-voltage switched forward converter equipped with a soft-switched synchronous rectifier is designed and implemented for some low output voltage applications where maximized efficiency is of utmost importance. The converter efficiency is maximized due to soft-switching of the main, active clamp and the synchronous rectifier MOSFET switches. Experimental results are presented for a converter with a de input voltage of 48V, an output voltage of 5V and a de electronic load up to 10A. The ...
