Studies in architecture and reconstruction of udabno III-house D
Yarma, Özgecan; Bertram, Jan Krzysztof; Department of Settlement Archaeology (2009)
The Udabno Project is an archaeological fieldwork in Eastern Georgia which includes three settlements from ca. 11th \10th century BC (Udabno I, II and III). The project aims to provide information about the settlement of this period of time. Extensive surveys including geomagnetic prospection took place before the excavations and these are all reveal proto-urban settlement structures. In this project, one of the most important investigations is the pit dwellings, which are located in the middle of the settl...
Study of neutrino interactions in the chorus experiment
Çuha, Volkan; Güler, Ali Murat; Department of Physics (2006)
The emulsion target of the CHORUS detector was exposed to the wide-band neutrino beam of the CERN SPS between the years 1994 and 1997. In total about 130.000 neutrino interactions were located in the nuclear emulsion target and fully reconstructed. Detailed DATA and Monte Carlo (MC) comparisons were done in order to test reliability of the detector simulation. There is reasonable agreement between DATA and MC. The ratio of deep inelastic neutral-current (NC) to the deep inelastic (DIS) charged-current(CC) $...
An investigation of x-ray escape for an HPGe detector
Can, Cüneyt; Bilgici, SZ (Wiley, 2003-07-01)
X-ray escape peaks for a planar HPGe detector were investigated for a point source of photons with 59.5 keV energy. The effect of the solid angle for the incident photons on the escape probability of Ge K x-rays was studied using collimators with varying apertures. A Monte Carlo program was also developed to estimate the probability of escape for various mechanisms and routes. The experimental and simulation results showed that the escape probability is essentially constant for a wide range of collimator ra...
Studies on photochemical vapor generation of selenium
Çetmeli , Melis; Ertaş, Gülay; Department of Chemistry (2019)
Selenium is a significant trace element for human health. Selenium can be essential or toxic for human body depending on its concentration. Within the scope of this thesis, photochemical vapor generation tungsten coil atomization technique has been studied for the determination of selenium. Volatile selenium compounds were generated by exposure of UV light of the solution containing selenium and acetic acid. To increase sensitivity of photochemical vapor generation system, the technique was combined with tu...
Analysis of neutrino interactions in the opera experiment
Kamışcıoğlu, Mustafa; Güler, Ali Murat; Department of Physics (2012)
OPERA stands for Oscillation Project with Emulsion t-Racking Apparatus. The main goal of the OPERA experiment is to search for tau neutrino appearance in almost pure muon neutrino beam. The detector is located at Gran Sasso, 730 km away from the neutrino source, at CERN. In this thesis, the reconstruction efficiency and purity of neutrino interactions in the OPERA target have been studied by using Monte Carlo simulation. The efficiency of primary vertex reconstruction for muon neutrino Charge Current (CC) e...
