Synthesis and characterization of hyperbranched and air drying fatty acid based resins
Bat, Erhan; Gündüz, Güngör; Department of Chemical Engineering (2005)
There has been a considerable effort in the last years to decrease the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) present in organic coatings. The risks to human health and environmental hazards associated with VOCs, governmental directives, and economic factors are the main driving forces behind this effort. One way of achieving less or no VOC containing coating systems is to produce low viscosity resins. Hyperbranched resins owing to their globular structure have low viscosities and are promising materia...
Characterization and reactivity studies for chemical loop gasification of high sulfur lignites
Kanca, Arzu; Üner, Deniz; Department of Chemical Engineering (2013)
The objective of this study was to characterize and to determine the gasification reactivity of Tuncbilek lignites. The ultimate analysis of Tuncbilek lignite revealed that the elemental composition is 37.7% C, 3.6% H, 1.6% N, and 5.4% S, while the proximate analysis indicated 4.7 ± 0.9% moisture 27.9 ± 0.1% volatiles and 37.9 ± 0.2% ash. In this context, four different reactions during gasification namely, pyrolysis, oxidation, hydrogenation, and wet air oxidation were investigated separately. Carbon resid...
Demineralization of Sirnak asphaltites by flotation
Hicyilmaz, C.; Altun, Naci Emre (2006-01-01)
Demineralization of Sirnak asphaltite by flotation method was investigated. The effect of different parameters on the process such as particle size, collector type and amount, pH, pulp density, flotation time and cleaning of rougher flotation product was studied. Treatment with collector Accoal 18 (Cytec Ind. Inc.) at natural pH gave the highest recovery of combustibles and low ash yield. Flotation at pulp density 10% solid by weight and 2-min residence time gave the best result. As a result of single-stage...
Preparation and Characterization of Antibacterial Zeolite-Polyurethane Composites
Kamisoglu, K.; Çatman Aksoy, Emine; Akata Kurç, Burcu; Hasırcı, Nesrin; BAÇ, NURCAN (2008-12-05)
In this study, antibacterial properties were induced in polyurethane (PU) films by the incorporation of Ag+-loaded zeolites as fillers. The mechanical and thermal properties of the prepared composites were also investigated. For this purpose, two different types of zeolite microparticles, high-silica zeolite beta crystals and low-silica zeolite A crystals, were synthesized. Ag+ was added by ion exchange, and these particles were incorporated into the PU prepolymer, which was prepared from its main component...
Studies towards the preparation of functionalized cellulose microspheres with affinities towards negatively charged biomembranes
Demirel, Kaan; Türkyılmaz, Serhan; Department of Chemistry (2021-7)
Cellulose microspheres (CMs), generally with diameters in the 10-1000 µm range, have been used as stationary phases in chromatography, substrates for ion exchange applications, supports for protein immobilization and solid-phase synthesis, and drug loading and release materials. Furthermore, cellulose and CMs are biocompatible and have been used in many biomedical applications as varied as the dressing of wounds and blood filtration. Targeting of bacterial cells can be achieved using antibodies, antibody fr...
