In this study, the effects of CBRT monetary policy decisions on the consumer, automobile, housing and commercial loans of the banks during the period from the early of 2004 to the middle of 2011 are examined. In order to perform this study, it is benefited from weekly weighted average loan interest rate data of the banks, which is the data having the highest frequency that could be obtained from the electronic data distribution system of CBRT. Monetary policy instruments of Central Bank may change in the course of time or monetary policy could be executed by more than one instrument. Therefore, as the political interest rate would be insufficient in the calculation of the effect of monetary policy on loan interest rates of the banks, Government Dept Securities’ premiums are used instead of the political interest rates in this study to make it reflect the policies of central bank more clearly as a whole. Among the Government Dept Securities that have different maturity structure, benchmark bonds that are adapted to the expected political interest rate changes and that react to the unexpected interest rate changes at the high rate (reaction coefficient 0.983) are used. In order to weight the cointegration relation between interest rates, unrestricted error correction model is established and it is determined by Bound Test that there is a long-term relation between each interest rate and interest rate of benchmark bond. After a cointegration relation is determined among the serials, autoregressive distributed lag model is used to determine the level of transitivity and it is determined that monetary policy decisions affect the banking interest rate at 77% level and by 13 weeks delay on average.

Effects of Central Bank's Announcements on Financial Markets
Hanikaz, Buğrahan; Gaygısız, Esma; Department of Financial Mathematics (2022-12-19)
It has been stated in various studies that the Central Bank's announcements do not only affect the short-term interest rates, but also the long-term interest rates through different channels. In this study the effect of the decision of the Central Bank of Turkey on financial markets were examined via VAR with functional shocks method proposed by Inoue and Rossi (2018) . High frequency identification method was adopted to reduce the identification problem in the VAR model, impulse response functions were obt...
Effects of Dollarization on Bank Performance: Analysis for Turkey
IŞIK, SENA; Şendeniz Yüncü, İlkay (2022-03-01)
Dollarization has significant effects on the real sector, monetary policy, and financial system. In this study, the effects of dollarization on banks’ performance in Turkey for the period of 2012-2017 are investigated by using both static and dynamic panel data analyses. Our Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) results indicate the statistical significance of the negative impact of deposit dollarization on return on assets (ROA). Both the random effects regression and GMM results show a negative and signific...
Monetary Policy in The General Theory
Ekinci, Nazım Kadri (Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi (Ankara, Turkey), 2008-6)
The theory of interest rate is central to Keynesian macroeconomics. This paper provides an interpretation of Keynes’ conventional theory of the interest rate. Accordingly, the interest rate can only be determined in the market, if expectations converge. The central bank is a market-maker, because of its capacity to manage expectations and to affect market outcomes. On the other hand, interest rate and asset prices determine the rate at which wealth is converted into income. This may be a crucial considerati...
Term structure of government bond yields : a macro-finance approach
Artam, Halil; Yıldırak, Şahap Kasırga; Department of Financial Mathematics (2006)
Interactions between macroeconomic fundamentals and term structure of interest rates be stronger according to the way of changes in structure of worldwide economy. Combined macro-finance analysis determines the joint dynamics of term structure of interest rates and macroeconomic fundamentals. This thesis provides analysis of two existing macro-finance models and an original one. Parameter estimations for these three macro-finance term structure models are done for monthly Turkish data by use of an efficient...
A Comparative study for nonlinear structure of the interest rate pass through
Değer, Osman; Yıldırım Kasap, Dilem; Department of Economics (2012)
This study investigates the interest rate pass through from the money market rate to the lending rate by utilizing monthly data of fifteen countries, grouped as high income, upper middle income and lower middle income, over the period 1999:01-2011:09. Taking the linear cointegration test of Engle-Granger as benchmark, we employ threshold cointegration tests of Enders and Siklos (2001) in order to account for the possible nonlinearities in the pass-through process. Empirical results reveal that the pass thro...
