EVALUATION OF LOW GRADE IRON ORE DEPOSIT IN ERZINCAN-TURKEY FOR IRON ORE PELLET CONCENTRATE PRODUCTION
SİVRİKAYA, OSMAN; Arol, Ali İhsan (2012-01-01)
In this study the separation possibility of gangue minerals from a low grade magnetite ore with 45% Fe from an iron ore deposit located near Erzincan-Turkey was investigated. The iron ore deposit consists of mainly magnetite mineral. Hematite is the second iron oxide found in the deposit. The gangue minerals contain mainly SiO2 and Al2O3 impurities. The main object of the research is to investigate the production of a concentrate suitable for iron ore pellet production. The concentrate for pellet production...
Investigation of cell migration and proliferation in agarose based hydrogels for tissue engineering applications
Vardar, Elif; Hasırcı, Nesrin; Hasırcı, Vasıf Nejat; Department of Biomedical Engineering (2010)
Hydrogels are three dimensional, insoluble, porous and crosslinked polymer networks. Due to their high water content, they have great resemblance to natural tissues, and therefore, demonstrate high biocompatibility. The porous structure provides an aqueous environment for the cells and also allows influx of nutrients needed for cellular viability. In this study, a natural biodegradable material, agarose (Aga), was used and semi-interpenetrating networks (semi-IPN) were prepared with polymers having differen...
Simulation of nest assessment behavior by ant scouts
Şahin, Erol (2002-01-01)
The scouts of Leptothorax albipennis colonies find and assess new nest sites, when their current nests become uninhabitable. Observations of these scouts have suggested that they assess, among other things, the integrity of the internal periphery and the size of the potential nest site. The hypothesis that the scouts use a ‘Buffon’s needle algorithm’ to estimate the nest size is supported by experiments. In this paper, we present a behavioral model for the nest assessment of the scouts. This behavior is imp...
Investigation of the pre-concentration possibility of scandium ores
Altınsel, Yiğit; Altun, Naci Emre; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Mining Engineering (2018)
This study was aimed at investigating the possibility of obtaining a scandium (Sc) pre-concentrate from Eskişehir-Mihalıççık scandium bearing clayey ore through mineral processing methods namely attrition scrubbing, enhanced gravity separation by using falcon concentrator, magnetic separation and flotation concentration. In this context, the study began with the characterization of the run-of-mine Eskişehir-Mihalıççık scandium ore by performing mineralogical, XRD and chemical analyses. Mineralogical analysi...
Use of boron based binders in pelletization of iron ores
Sivrikaya, Osman; Arol, Ali İhsan; Department of Mining Engineering (2011)
Bentonite is the most preferred silicate-based binder in iron ore pelletizing. However, it is considered as an impurity due to its high SiO2 and Al2O3 content. The iron-making economy is adversely affected by the addition of bentonite or other silicate-based binders. In recent years, impurity-free alternative binders have been tested in order to replace bentonite or to lower the bentonite dosage. Organic binders yield good quality green and dry pellets. However, they fail to impart enough mechanical strengt...
