In this study the separation possibility of gangue minerals from a low grade magnetite ore with 45% Fe from an iron ore deposit located near Erzincan-Turkey was investigated. The iron ore deposit consists of mainly magnetite mineral. Hematite is the second iron oxide found in the deposit. The gangue minerals contain mainly SiO2 and Al2O3 impurities. The main object of the research is to investigate the production of a concentrate suitable for iron ore pellet production. The concentrate for pellet production should have at least 65% Fe with reasonable gangue contents (SiO2 <6.0% and Al2O3 <1.0%). The Davis tube and low intensity drum type wet magnetic separators were used for upgrading the Fe content and separation of gangue impurities from the iron ore. The results showed that, in order to produce a concentrate with sufficient Fe grade (>65% Fe), the iron ore should be ground to get 45% of material by weight to be finer than 45 mu m. The concentrate with over 65% Fe and 90% Fe recovery could be produced with 45% Fe content from the feed material by crushing, grinding and magnetic separation operations.

UPGRADING VALUABLE MINERALIZATION AND REJECTING MAGNESIUM SILICATES BY PRE-CONCENTRATION OF MAFIC ORES
Altun, Naci Emre; Klein, B (2014-01-01)
Amenability of mafic ores to pre-concentration was investigated with respect to ore mineralization characteristics. For the pre-concentration tests seven ores from various nickel-copper operations at Sudbury, Ontario were subjected to dense medium separation. Size assays of metal values, i.e. distribution of nickel and copper with respect to size fractions, were also determined. The ores were assessed in three categories of valuable mineralization as massive pure sulphides, coarse massive sulphide grains an...
Küçültülmüş Tambur Testi ile Demir Cevheri Peletleri Aşınma Dayanımı Belirlenmesi

The tumbling-abrasion indices of iron ore pellets are measured according to instructions in ASTM E279- 97 (2010). This test measures the resistance of the product pellets under certain abrasive condition in a standard test drum. However, this test requires 11.3 kg pellet to carry out a single tumbling-abrasion test. This amount of pellet can be obtained from industrial-scale pellet production. However, it is impossible to produce this amount of pellet in laboratory-scale investigation since the capacities o...
Investigation of the pre-concentration possibility of scandium ores
Altınsel, Yiğit; Altun, Naci Emre; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Mining Engineering (2018)
This study was aimed at investigating the possibility of obtaining a scandium (Sc) pre-concentrate from Eskişehir-Mihalıççık scandium bearing clayey ore through mineral processing methods namely attrition scrubbing, enhanced gravity separation by using falcon concentrator, magnetic separation and flotation concentration. In this context, the study began with the characterization of the run-of-mine Eskişehir-Mihalıççık scandium ore by performing mineralogical, XRD and chemical analyses. Mineralogical analysi...
Use of boron compounds as binders in iron ore pelletization
Sivrikaya, Osman; Arol, Ali İhsan (2010-05-01)
Low grade iron ores with impurity gangue minerals containing silica and alumina must be upgraded to an acceptable level of iron content. Concentrates, due to their fine sizes, are not suitable to be directly charged to the iron-making processes such as the blast furnace or the DR-plant. Hence, an agglomeration technique should be applied to fine concentrate. The most commonly employed one is pelletizing in iron ore industry. In pelletizing, iron ore, water and a binder are balled in a mechanical disc or dru...
Reducibility properties of Erdemir samples
Akşit, Murat Özkan; Topkaya, Yavuz Ali; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2004)
The effect of physical, chemical and mineralogical properties on reducibility of iron containing raw materials were studied with the use of two pellets, one sinter and one lump iron ore sample provided by Erdemir integrated iron and steel works. Although Erdemir lump iron ore contained hematite, it was found to be less reducible than Erdemir sinter since porous structures are easier to reduce and in general sinters have a higher porosity as compared to lump ores. Experimental findings indicated that Erdemir...
