Determination of sea level trends and vertical land motions from satellite altimetry and tide gauge observations at the Mediterranean Coast of Turkey
Karabil, Sıtar; Karslıoğlu, Mahmut Onur; Demir, Coşkun; Department of Geodetic and Geographical Information Technologies (2011)
A radar altimetry satellite measures the height of sea surface globally. However, tide gauges, measuring Sea Level Height (SLH), are set up on the Earth surface. Hence, SLHs are involved in vertical motion of the Earth crust. In this study, vertical motions of Earth crust have been separated from sea level variations. After clustering of SSH observations with K-means approach, two outlier detection methods Pope and Interquartile (IQR) Tests are implemented in data. Afterwards, each altimetry measurement is ...
Determination of Secchi disc depths in Lake Eymir using remotely sensed data
Yüzügüllü, Onur; Aksoy, Ayşegül (null; 2010-06-05)
In this study Secchi disk depths (SDD) are determined in an eutrophic Eymir Lake in Ankara using the multi-spectral image obtained from the Quickbird satellite. For this purpose, empirical models given in literature and artificial neural networks (ANN) are used. SDDs at 17 sampling points in Eymir Lake are measured via field studies. In the satellite image, pixel values at the sampling points are determined using ERDAS Imagine. Results indicate very low correlations between the SDD values calculated using t...
Determination of snow water equivalent over the eastern part of Turkey using passive microwave data
Sorman, A. Unal; Beser, Ozgur (2013-07-01)
Information on regional snow water equivalent (SWE) is required for the management of water generated from snowmelt. Modeling of SWE in the mountainous regions of eastern Turkey, one of the major headwaters of Euphrates-Tigris basin, has significant importance in forecasting snowmelt discharge, especially for optimum water usage. An assimilation process to produce daily SWE maps is developed based on Helsinki University of Technology (HUT) model and AMSR-E passive microwave data. The characteristics of the ...
