Determination of welding parameter dependent hot cracking susceptibility of 5086-h32 aluminium alloy with the use of mvt method
Batıgün, Caner; Ankara, Osman Alpay; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2005)
Hot cracking is a serious problem that encounters during welding of aluminium-magnesium alloys. In the present study, solidification and liquation type of hot cracks in weld metal and the heat-affected zones of 5086-H32 aluminium alloy were investigated by using Modified Varestraint Test (MVT) with TIG-AC and TIG-DC welding. With determining the size, type and number of cracks, a relation was established between welding line energy and strain on the hot crack formation. This information was used to determin...
Determination of residual stress state in SAE/AISI 8620 carburized steel by non-destructive testing methods
Kaleli, Tuğçe; Gür, Cemil Hakan; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2017)
Industrial performance of the carburized steels is mainly dependent on the residual stress state in the carburized layer that is controlled by the process parameters such as carburizing temperature and time. Non-destructive evaluation of the material properties and residual stress state has been gained importance for industrial applications due to its advantages such as measurement speed and complete control possibility of the components by automation. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the efficiency...
Determination of susceptibility to intergranular corrosion of uns 31803 type duplex stainless steel by electrochemical reactivation technique
Arıkan, Mehmet Emin; Doruk, Mustafa; Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (2008)
In the present work the effect of isothermal ageing treatment on the microstructure and on the localized corrosion resistance of a duplex stainless steel (DSS) was investigated. Specimens taken from a hot rolled cylindrical duplex stainless bar with 22% Cr grade were solution annealed at 1050°C and then sensitization heat treatments were conducted at 650, 725 and 800°C with duration ranging from 100 to 31622 min. The microstructural changes were examined by the light optical microscopy (LOM) and scanning el...
Determination of hot crack susceptibility in various kinds of steels
Ankara, Alpay; Ari, Haldun Bülent (1996-01-01)
The aim of this investigation was to study the hot crack susceptibility of some Turkish and German structural steel plates with a modified varestraint-transvarestraint test method. Testing was accomplished using a Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding process. The results of this study revealed that total crack length increases as welding current increases or punch radius or welding speed decreases. An attempt is made to provide explanations for these phenomena. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
